Cam belt

Hi, the non-starting problem on my 1997 MK 4 Fiesta turned out to be a faulty fuel pump.
My problem now is that in the service book it says the cam belt was changed in 2007. I know that is 15 years ago but the car has only done 25,000 miles since then. Should I have the belt replaced now anyway, regardless of mileage and is it a job I can do myself on my drive?
(Only asking that coz I've just been quoted £550 by a local garage!!)

Belts around £20 depending on the engine. Are you sure they said £550 just a belt and pump change or
was that including a full stripdown?

Age is the killer for rubber when not in use, it cracks and fails very quickly when its put back into use.

That low a mileage it should probably be changed every 5 years.

Thankyou, So I guess it has to be done right now?
Yes they did quote £550, (Europit in Heybridge Essex) They said the parts would be £200, (water pump and pulleys etc) coz they only use proper Ford parts and the labour would be £250.
I am quite handy with a spanner and in no rush so is it a job I could do myself?
