You can read the lambda sensors and work out what the car thinks the emissions are.

But to test the exhaust gas you need an analyser. Gunsons used to sell one. I have

one but not used it for many years.

Pop along to an MOT station and get them to test it?

thx for replying... If i read the lambda sensors how can i work out what the car thinks the emissions are.

If the mixture is rich due to overfuelling then the lambda will be less than 1.0

The actual cause maybe too little air or too much fuel though.

If the mixture is lean then it will be above 1.0, modern engines can be above 1

though.

It could be a lack of fuel or an air leak if greater than 1.1

Monitor the sensor readings and see if its bouncing up and down to compensate

or whether its compensating for a lean or rich mixture.
