I've got a feeling I've asked this before, but I can't remember what the answer was. :doh:

Are the central locking motors in the back doors the same in all body shapes? Or to put it another way, will one from a saloon or hatch fit my estate?

I'm sure the answer is yes, but if anyone can confirm... :thankyousign:

I don't think anyone knows :}

By the way, shouldn't I get stroppy because no-one came along with an answer within 5 minutes of me putting the original post up? :whistling:

I should maybe know myself,after being a member on here for over 4 years and mondeo ownership for over 5 years,but this is the first central locking problem I've had!..Perhaps a central locking guru will come along shortly,if one doesn't I'm gonna throw a hissy fit!!!... :whistling:

I asked a similar question recently (would a MkI motor fit a MkII) with no reply. I am obviously having c/l problems and after searching the site I've come to the conclusion it's a big problem.

I only have a small scrappy near me with few mondeos, hence the question.

It would be great it someone in the know could knock up a compatibility thread with common faulty parts i.e. all escorts Mkxxx, Monedos Mkxxx and fiestas Mkxxx have this interchangeable/swapable part.

Incidentally I went to the scrappy first car I saw was a R reg mondy. Aha I thought that's lucky. Interior looked exactly like mine. I had particulary probs getting the door card off (wanted to leave it in good condition incase another mondy owner wanted it) took me ages. Lo and behold when it all came loose and I had a good look it was IR, bo**** I thought, although the inside did look different but I'm getting on and thought it was my memory. Happy ending, I hope, I found an S reg ST24 (minus engine) which looks like the part's the same. will try and fit tomorrow weather permitting.

BTW i don't come to the site as often as I should but I nearly always get cracking advice which is appreciated.

hi mate there is yes to your qweston and a but
the MK1 and the early MK2 have the same locks but about the S and T reg they put new ones on
the qwick way to tel is the handel if yours front door handels are smooth there the new ones
if they have a bump at the front of them they are the old tipe lock
the same with the back doors the new ones you use your key to put the kid locks on
the old ones they have a small liver to flick
hope this helps you out :L

Ah, they're coming out of the woodwork now :}

Another thing I've picked up on looking at eBay: I saw the one I need on there (missed it because I was in a strop all day after falling over at work and spraining my wrist :( :} so couldn't be bothered to go online) and it said on the add that it was the 'later one where the child lock is activated using the ignition key'.

So we now have two questions:

1) As I first asked, are all back door c/l motors the same?

and 2) Is it only the later ones which have a child lock which needs activating with the key? (mine does by the way, build date may 98).

And if no-one comes up with an answer within the next hour I'm going to throw my toys out of the pram, big time. :whistling: :gayfight: :}
