Cooling hoses - Can't find replacements

433 Views 14 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  vitorjcc
Hello,

my car has a leak in the cooling hose and I requested the price for a new one to my local Ford and they told me it is no longer available. The hose in question is the item 2 on the attached photo. Doens anyone know where I can find this?

its an expensive used part but a seller on Ebay UK has one and will ship internationally, link below.

The other option if your plastic parts are ok is to buy hoses of the correct size and some metal linking tubes and make your own like people do when making custom hoses for modded cars.

Thank you for the link, I have asked if he sends it to Portugal since it's listed as not available to deliver here.

I think that you all the connections an curvatures to build one it's going to be a nightmare

Kits exist made specifically for the Mondeo V6 but they are crazy expensive, finding pipes with the right bends and linking them to make your own would be cheaper, its only got to go in the right directions and not be a 1:1 match of the original.

What is leaking, can you cut out just that section and add a new section in only in that place?

This is a pic of someone with a kit by Samco, that kit is loads of money, they exist but DIY is the far cheaper option.

Very beautiful but it's a bit expensive and long delivery time.

if it were me, i would be looking to just chop out the leaking part and make that with pipes, linking tubes and jubilee clips.
Possible addition to the above get some self amalgamating rubber tape to help strengthen the pipes for the future.

What about the later part? 1202254

You can still get those brand new from Ford.
I got the part, not exactly the one, I got apparently the part suggested(1202254) and had to make some adjustments. The car is running now, apparently well.

I have an OBD device connected to read the temperature and it scares me a bit the temperatures I see. Working from 88ºC to 102/103ºC. The gauge on the dashboard does not move from the middle point but it does scare me such temperature. I read it is normal but still is a bit high for my taste :) . I'm more affraid once the summer really gets going with high temperatures.

Does anyone know of any way to have it working at lower temps? The thermostate is labeled 86ºC and I don't think I can get any lower then that.
You can get 82ºC thermostats, choose a hotter country where the cars were sold and the stats tend to be lower.

I don't trust Ford gauges, they stay on Normal over a very wide range. The car could be boiling away and it could
still show normal.

Have you checked the temperature with an OBDII reader? What are you getting?

I have tried to find a thermostat with lower temp but so far no luck.

Regarding the temperatures, the reading I have is with OBDII. it ranges from 88/90ºC to 102/103ºC
Thermostat starts to open at 88 and will be fully open at 102 so nothing wrong there.

If it goes much above the 102 then things need looking at.
My 2,5 v6 also runs quite hot always has done.
Just made a small trip, 150km and the tem ranges from 88/90°C to 102/103° but in one occasions went to 110 for a split second coming down almost immediately and in 1-2 seconds was on 97 going down. The dashboard gauge never moved from the almost center point.

I would really would like to get my hands on a 82° thermostat but I have been searching and can't find one for this car.

I know of a owner here in Portugal that installed a switch on the dashboard to turn on the cooling fans because he got scared also of the hight temperatures he was getting but I would rather have the thermostat first to see if I could decrease the hight running temperatures
I did the same on a Rover 800 Diesel, when towing up long steep hills the temperature used to rise.
Only heppened when towing.

Added a manual switch and a heavy duty relay so that I could bring the temperature down before the hill
and kept the temperature middle on the gauge when at the top of the hill.

If you do that make sure you use a heavy duty relay. Switch and trigger wire only needs to pass a small
amount of power that way. I was thinking of adding an additional radiator to increase the coolant
capacity also but the switch was a simple fix and it worked.

EDIT: I forgot something I did years before that on a tuned Classic Mini. Drill small holes around the outer
ring of the thermostat. That allows a small amount of coolant to cycle even when the thermostat is closed.

Pushing further you could add a slim radiator or several heater cores and a waterpump off a prius or similar
which will circulate the coolant giving extra capacity at the same time. I have a prius waterpump running
on a eberspacher heater, far cheaper than the genuine items.

I have been driving it since everything was installed and the car is running what appears to be normally. The temperature is going from 88ºC to 103ºC.

I'm still looking for a 82ºC thermostat but no luck so far because apparently this thermostat has double feature.

I think that I will have to get a switch so I can connect fans manually.
