Do I Have an Imminent Clutch Problem?

1653 Views 4 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  colmar
Always found it difficult to engage 1st and 2nd on my Mondeo (14k miles, March 09, 2.0 TDCi 143PS, 6-speed manual). When I raised this with the dealer they told me the technician had checked my car and it was normal.

Over the last week, a squeak/squawk has developed every time I release the clutch pedal this seems to coincide with me perceiving that the biting point has moved i.e. the biting point seems to be very near the top of the travel and I cannot remember it being this high before.

I know I need to get this down to the dealer, but does any one have some pointers or words of wisdom to help me beforehand?

Thanks,
Harvey

Harvey,

Go on ETIS and see what type of gearbox you've got, then PM terry haines our gearbox expert and see what he says.

I have had problems with mine for ages and got fobbed off by the garage (usual s**t, "that is normal, they all do that"). After relaying the faults to him and finding out it is a known problem, i will be writing to FCS to get it sorted.

I sssume it's still under warranty?

Good luck

Not off-topic, very useful, I have the MMT6 ;-)

Thanks
Hi Harvey

I think your problem is similar to but more serious than that experienced by a number of other posters on this site. Some of them have had it diagnosed as rusty splines on the input shaft resulting in the clutch not releasing properly and dragging.

However, given that the bite point on your clutch has now moved to the top of its travel, it sounds like your clutch plates have also been well worn as a result.

If I was you I'd pursue this with your dealer - it most certainly is not normal - and No - they don't all do that! I've a June 2008 Zetec with the same engine and gearbox as you and 18K on the clock - mine doesn't have this problem.

Good luck to you Mate. Hope you get a result soon.

Regards

Colin
