... That can help me with the ongoing Sat Nav install.

i spoke to another dealer today regarding the software update to bring the unit back to life (basically the SW update has been pressed and needs a green colored disc to reset the software for the DVD drive and touchscreen).

They again have said that the unit needs to be fully installed into the vehicle for them to even look at it, an option that i cant really take unless i spend another £200 on trim and parts to install it. I dont really want to do this until i know that the whole system is going to work, ie testing the climate control etc etc.

There was also talk of the CANBUS and i may have issues connecting it to the instrument cluster, they have said it may not 'talk' to each other.

I dont think that would be much of an issue if i got that far as they can hook it up to WDS and install the features i need.

So, basically , what i need is some major help and a major favour. If anyone can get me a disc that updates the software, or the disc that fixes bugs on the DENSO touchscreen Sat Nav that i can borrow (will be returned) i would be eternally grateful. [color:red]Not asking anyone to put their jobs on the line,[/color] just to ask a sympathetic workshop manager if this could be done.

Probably not the news you want to hear, but I was in exactly the same situation a few months back...and I tried EVERYTHING to get hold of that disc. It seems more or less impossible. The dealers claim that they dont keep, and can't get hold of the disc.

Instead, they had my car in twice, for 2 days at a time, while they butchered another car for the DVD unit at the back. Now, I can't see what difference that would have made but *apparently* there is software held in the DVD firmware, not just in the unit itself. Still dont know if that's true or not!? I can't believe they waste all those man-hours when all I needed was a disc in my hand for 10 minutes to sort it! I feel your frustration!

nope... this is the 12th dealer ive tried...

Some have NO idea what im on about, a couple got the arse cos i knew more about it than them, a couple told me it cant be done and that the unit wont even work on a testbench and the remainder are saying that it has to be installed in the car.

Whats annoying me is that in all, there are £200 worth of parts needed to install it in the dash (bezel, wiring, new style switches etc) and another £250 ish to do the proper job in the boot, ive got the money to spend but i wont unless they help me with this issue first as im not in the habit of just splashing out for something that may not work!! brings up the old customer service thing again...

Not under warranty, this is a retro fit.

I could try another DVD drive, new ones are £1450 so thats out, and even if i did get another one it may require programming on WDS so thats another dead end.

The disc does exist, WCCavnagh managed to get his local dealer to do it, but im trying to avoid a trip over to that neck of the woods, one dealer in Cheltenham has the disc but wont do it unless the unit is installed.

Also, if the firmware is held in the DVD drive, surely there must be a 'get out of jail free' clause to reset the unit without the disc? ie, SW update pressed, cant find the disc, so lets press a button and put it back to normal. It seems like as soon as you press that button it erases the info straight away.. Hope thats not the case...

shame your so far away, a very good 'friend' :whistling: of mine is a master mechanic at fords here. he does alot of the diagnostics etc work so has access to everything

thing is i doubt he would be able to let it out if you know what i mean. would prob need to take the car to the workshop and do it there when he has 5 mins or for him to take the disk and stuff himself and do it after work

Yup..that's what I thought. But I just couldn't find any way to revert it back. The best I came up with was pressing the bottom left and right-most hard buttons to bring on the backlight - at least you can see the "Insert System Disk" message then. I had to show the dealers this to disprove their theory that the unit was "Dead" :-S

The reason I'm not sure about the necessity for the disk is that when they finally got it sorted, they still claimed they did it without a disk. I'm not sure whether they actually replaced the DVD unit in the back or not.. They definately had the front unit out though, cos I can see marks in the plastic where they've used removal keys (thanks for damaging my fascia, Ford!). Also, the software is different because on the CD screen, the "Shuffle" icon has changed from a wiggly line to the word "Mix".

I'm sorry I'm not giving you answers, but maybe if you're armed with enough anecdotal evidence, you'll have more weight when talking to the dealers!?

That would be an option but the whole unit is in a cardboard box that needs a 12v battery to get it running... looks like a bad accident between a bowl of spaghetti and a sat nav unit...

There was another set up on Ebay for £345 that i was gonna buy but its gone, im hoping the person who bought it will get stuck and relist it, at least that way i'll hav a working DVD drive.. Im off to grizzle now...

This might sound mad, but have you tried a Jaguar dealer yet? I believe it's the same Denso sat nav in the X-Type. Crazy, (and you'll have the wrong startup logo :laugh: ) but it might just work, and at least you'll have it up and running 'til you find the proper disc.

Another thing I remembered is the dealer telling me that the units are coded to the VIN number of your car, but also the front unit is coded to the back, so if you nick either unit on it's own, it's almost useless.
