Having recently had a drop in performance, complete with a trail of smoke and about 10mpg go missing from my fuel consumption, I quickly popped the EGR off my car this weekend.

Oh dear.

The valve itself is fine, not stuck open or anything.

However the riser pipe from the intercooler, the bore of the EGr and the inlet manifold are all coated in about 1.5mm thick coating of horrid sticky oil residue. The breather on the head has a really big mass of oil vapour on the cover and the turbo compressor wheel has a lovely coating of oil. (note : turbo is fine , no play whatsoever)

Get the impression a piston or ring has failed.

Of to Ford now.
