Hi, I am a new member and want to know if there is a generic problem with Vignale wheels being susceptible to scratches. My car is 12 months old (6000 miles) and I have noticed that scratches to the paint are apparent on 3 wheels. The car has been for service today and the garage reluctantly agreed to send the problem to Ford, after initially saying it was not a warranty problem.
As paint specialist in a previous role I believe that there must be a performance issue with the paint for the same type of damage to appear on individual wheels, but , the garage were too quick to say that it was my problem to get repaired.
Does anybody have similar problems?

Hi, yes there is/was a paint problem with Vignale wheels. I am sure there is a thread somewhere in the Mk5 Mondeo section but I can't find it at the moment. I even posted up in it and the guy did get his wheels sorted on warranty after a bit of a fight
I will dig about a bit more if I get chance later on

Thanks, the photos show advanced corrosion, lifting and blistering the paint, I am concerned that the scratches on my wheels may develop into corrosion especially if moisture can penetrate now to the alloy. The dealer was dismissive of my complaint but I persuaded him to contact dealer service. They commented that on a standard alloy finish the scratches would not be visible. This sort of confirms my opinion that there is an inherent weakness in the Vignale alloy paint finish.
I will see what the Ford response is and report back
Thanks for information

Graham
