Ford Flip Key

Hi,

I have purchased a flip key from ebay and i have printed the wiki about it and understand it (kind of), but can someone please tell me or show me via pictures if you can, how to actually take the key apart in the first place?

I don't want to break it or damage it before even being able to take it apart. The wiki file just says to take it apart, but how?

I want this information so i can fully absorb it before attempting the modifications.

Also if anyone can give me any other tips on doing this modification that they found out whilst doing this themselves, then they would be much greatly received.

Thanks for any replys, hopefully someone can help.

obviously splitting into 2 is easy, but then splitting the blade part into halfs is tricky. they can break easily too if not careful.

i can tell you that i used flat blade screwdriver (quite a fat one) and prised it apart but i didnt do anything fancy.

just be very carful. maybe warm the plastic up first with a hairdryer to make the plastic 'give' more :)
Thanks for replying mate, much appreciated.

I may sound abit green here but how does the key split in 2 in the first place, is there a small catch like on the other remotes?

Also, where did you put the screwdriver to seperate the blade part, on the side, up through the opening?

Cheers.
Just pull it and it'll come in half. Pulling the key in half like in the pic is easy, but getting the flip part isn't. I broke my first attempt and could [color:green]not[/color] get it in half, even after I damaged it I could not get it in half no matter what I tried. So on my second flip part I decided to just drill the old PATS chip out and put my PATS chip in the hole I had just drilled.

Thanks for that. This isn't really filling me with confidence. I take it the blade part isn't just clipped together?

Out of curiosity, how far away does the PATS chip need to be to the ignition barrel? Could the PATS chip not fit somewhere in the battery end?
Bump...
the blade part i think is heat welded together? it pretty tough but can be done like i said above. replacement part is 20 odd quid deliverd off the bay so just go really easy on it. :)

the transponder would not work with me unless it was 1 inch or so away from the ignition barrel. :)
This is what's worrying me with the blade part. When it comes to plastic parts, i always manage to break them. What part did you put the screwdriver into, around the edges or into the gap where the buttons slot into? (sorry for keep asking)

I wondered if the chip could have been put into the other end of the key but don't think that'll be possible.
you open the key blade, and stick your screwdriver in the slot and just prise carefully.

if youre worried you might break it you could just sell it on and go the jag flip key route as its easier. ive done both ford and jag and the ford one is pretty tough i must admit. with the ford one you also have to drill out the old pats chip and to fit yours in (its bigger) you need to file down the battery part abit to allow for more room for the pats chip. its not that hard but its a bit of a pain :)
I know that i probably sound like i'm windging but i do prefer the look of the ford key. I've bought one with a tibbe key already fitted, it's just the fitting of the PATS chip that worried me.

It's strange cos i've tried to look quite closely at the pics on the wiki and the blade part looks as if it should just click together as there doesn't look as if there are any edges damaged. Obviously you have more experience with them than i do so i may just see if i can prise it apart when it arrives (hopefully tommorrow).

Thanks for all of your help and advice much appreciated. If you can think of anything else that could make it easier then please feel free to share, or anyone for that matter.

Cheers.
