Hi there.
i have bought a Ford Mondeo MK3 1,8 petrol 125BHp 2001.
Piston or Piston rings on cylinder 3 are gone. Compression only 4Bar on cyl 3. 14.5 Bar on the rest.
Is it possible to unmount sump and change piston / piston rings with the engine in car.
Would be the best way for me. i´m missing a proper garage for doing it.
My idea:
Jacking up the front of the car placing it on suiteble axle stands.
Dismantling cylinderhead
Dismantling oil sump
Free conrod from crabkshaft and push up the piston.
anyone managed to do this in car repair, or am i strongly advised to take out the engine first?

being honest i think its easier with the engine on a bench. sump and parts to remove are easier to get to. in a car its pretty constricting so would advise against it.

I know it will be easy´er with the engine out. But i don´t have an engine hoist. If it´s in anyway possible to do the job in car i will try that. would hope someone could tell me he did the job in car.

I doubt the Haynes covers bigend torque settings as they don't go into repairs on the block due to Fords 'disposable engine, come and buy a new short engine from us' policy...but I could be wrong.

Yes its possible to get the sump off etc.. But is it easier???

Will the rods pass up the bores? You dont want it to scratch them when

removing.

The engine/gear box need to be separated slightly. And they need supprt from above.

Your not far from being able to take it out anyway.

Hi All new here but have some heavy oil usage.

I just removed the cylinder head to change a burnt exhaustvalve.

The same time i changed all seals including valveseals, still i have a good heavy blue smoke.

Is it posible to take the sump down and change the piston ring from botom.
Realy dont wont to pull the head of again.
