How come bothe use the same engine but ive not seen any smokey Jags?

The jags might have a DPF (diesel particulate filter). They basically burn the soot off but cost £500 or so to replace when they're full/used/worn out. All Euro 5 cars have DPF and they've been an option on commercial vehicles for a while.

there shouldnt BE any soot in a computer controlled common rail engine with electronic injectors and more sensors than the bloody space shuttle

You could, in theory. If you jammed the turbo vanes to the maximum spoolup position and limited the rpms that you used.

But its more practical to install a DPF, or to clean the inlet manifold and EGR, block off the EGR and remove the CAT.

a dpf only catched smoke/particles emitted by the engine, with a turbo fitted it should be possible to turn the pump flow down (used to do it with a screw on a perkins/montego!) and still have performance using the turbo, a dpf is an admission that the rest of the gizmos dont work, surely a remapper can turn the pump down? so much for the marvellous improvements they have made

i wont mention EGRs and DMFs....

Some (diesel) x-type jags DO smoke! look at their forums and you will find it is a common complaint, with very similar discussions in finding a cure as can be seen on this forum.

BTW Only 2.2 auto x-types had a DPF as standard, and it was an option on the more recent manual 2.2's. It was not available on 2.0 models.

The x-type is of course now not made.
