I've always preferred the stand alone handheld code readers and have the iCarsoft units for BMW/Mercedes which have been great and in those applications cover every system in the car I'd ever want to check out. The Ford version is just under £100 but I'm not sure if this would look at all the systems but from this listing seems so... https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/362157811308?ssPageName=STRK:MESINDXX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1436.l2649??

The alternative seems to be a lead/adaptor and Forscan which most folks on here rate highly. I've had a similar application for BMW in the past and it was very laggy and didn't display correctly with "buttons" on window edges falling off the screen making it a pig to use at times.

Is Forscan bug free to use on a Windows laptop?

Am I right this is the favoured adaptor... https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/New-Modified-ELM327-USB-Ford-Elmconfig-Focccus-Forscan-Focus-Smax-Mondeo-Kuga/223316318195?hash=item33feb097f3:g:CXYAAOSwlY5bv393&frcectupt=true??

And once the drivers are loaded to that from his website it's just a case of downloading Forscan. Is this the safe site... https://forscan.org/home.html??

Any thoughts appreciated.

ForScan is a very good application and is updated on a regular basis.
You will need an extended licence which you can get free for 2 months after registration on the ForScan forum..

I use tunnelrat for my interface:

https://tunnelrat-electronics.fwscart.com/

My adaptor is a TRE27 auto switching model which for some unknown reason is no longer available on the tunnelrat website, it's so fast and easy to do any changes.

The link below shows a setup guide for the TRE27 version but also gives you info on how to activate ForScan

99.9% of Forscan is free for PC use. The App has a very restricted interface.

It reads codes but will only allow 1 dashboard item. But its fairly cheap.

The extended licence if for sections that you may never need. Key coding etc.

OK got the Tunnelrat adaptor set up and Forscan installed. Connected to car OK.

Just picked up a couple of what I call glitch/histotic codes for ABS and Cruise Control which were not currently present. Cleared and didn't reappear on starting the engine. Fingers crossed it's free of codes but will check again after a run.

Thanks for guidance.
