I'm thinking of changing the front pads and discs on my Tit x (57 Plate) but before I take any wheels off, will it have a 'low brake pad' sensor and if so do they need changing at the same time as the pads?
if you're changing discs, buy new pads regardless. Some members prefer brands such as mintex, brembo or ferrodo, they are available on ebay, and they fit themselves, just buy from a seller with good feedback score, as some say there are fakes on there too. Failing that, nip down to your local motor factor and ask for a decent set of discs and pads, i can't say without seeing the car, but its usually possible to see if there is a sensor or at least feel the wire as it usually comes out the centre of the pad, and its 2 fairly thin wires, about 4 inches long that have a connector on them.
the low brake pad friction material sensor is built into the brake pad, and is not a separate item, its concept is pretty basic.
click here, and if you want, put your reg number or model info in, to see what the pads are like, quote march25 for 25% off.
I know that this topic is a little bit old but I was thinking about a modification to the braking system. As far as I know the MK4 does not have brake pad wear sensors BUT:
- the MK4 fitted with the Convers+ has a in-dash light for that (see pic below)
- this light is working in LED Test (this means that the LED is there and some electrical connections are made)
Now, is there a possibility that the system may be in place and can be easily put "to work"?
My main purpose is to install brake pads that have the sensors and connect the sensor to the (existing) electrical wiring. Is this possible?
That indicator is used for brake fluid level, but I guess you could connect something in series with the cables to the level sensor (a relay from your brake pad wear system) that woukd open crcuit and give you a warning.
if you've got the connectors down by the calipers for the pads with sensors it can't hurt to try changing to them, if it doesn't work then you can just leave them plugged in, or chop the wires off the pads and you've then got the no sensor type pads.
knowing the law of sod, you probably have to pay fraud dealer £100 to enable the sensor circuit to work.
Did somebody installed EBC Green Stuff brake pads? I'm thinking of using EBC DP21932 for front and EBC DP21933 for rear. I want to use these pads with the stock discs. I also saw that the EBC DP21932 can accommodate brake wear sensor
These people are very good too, 35% off at moment. Got my timing belt kit etc from them a while ago, was the cheapest I found anywhere http://www.mister-auto.co.uk/en/
Actually from looking on both websites it gives the minimum thickness as 26 mm, but in Malford's MK4 Major Service Guide (http://www.talkford.com/topic/200614-mk4-major-service-guide-brakes-22-dw175ps/) his front discs appeared to have a thickness of 19.15 mm. Are they recommending replacement too early?
