I was reading my owners manual...for a fuel filter replacement number. To my amazement, it reads that it is a lifetime filter.

I have seen numerous youtube vids on how to replace this part for the 2006 escape.

I have a 2010 xlt with 3.0 6-cyl. Flex fuel. It has 35,000.

I'm not trying to replace the tank filter. There should be an in-line canister type fuel filter. Am I wrong?

petrols: poke your head under the car and you should see the fuel tank lines coming from the tank, if there is an inline filter it will usually be within about a couple of feet (60cm) of the tank, these usually look like the one in the pic below.

diesels: these tend to have a filter in the engine bay, they usually resemble an normal can-type wind on oil filter.
