God bless em. Just took me and the car home after the car pissed out all its oil on the M56 seizing the engine solid.

Marvellous.

ouch, that suxs buddy, what mk mondeo was it and what engine was it? Zetecs are notorious for doing this :whistling:

but serious, at least they came and recovered you, what are you going to do, get another engine or scrap the car?
Its a 2.0 tdci - with 72k.

Greenflag dropped it and me off at the local garage. Garage are looking at it tomorrow. Breakdown bloke reckons its worth putting in a recon engine.

Only had it 4 months and done 4.5k - warranty will only pay first 500 quid - that's if they don't try and wriggle out of their responsibilities.

Just as I'm about to go on 2 weeks hols as well.
May as well get then to fit a new dmf as well while its out. Going to hire a car while mine is off the road.
as said above buddy that really suxs, yeah a recon engine might be worth doing, i take it its a mk3 mondy, hopefully the warrenty will cough up with the money for the engine, but i bet its going to cost quite a bit to have it bought and fitted to your car,

deff not something needed for anyone in this recession :headshake:

do they know why it dumped its oil? Was it sump problem or pipe problem?
yeah i was going to say, might be worth doing it while they have the other engine out, that way u kill 2 birds with 1 stone, though its going to bump up the price even more, but its something id personally do while its off ;)
Just the kind of thing you don't want to happen in the current financial climate! I know the feeling when just after Christmas my clutch went, cost £600! But I was happy last week when it sailed through the MOT.
The oil came from the filter area. It was bizarre - Saturday afternoon checked oil - up to max all was fine. Drove home, parked up all Sunday - drove 30 miles to work all OK - 3 miles on the way home - no oil warning light, no dash lights at all. Engine faultered and then came to a halt - temperature was normal with no grinding noises. Stopped car on hard shoulder - wouldn't turn over - cylinders solid.

Oil on road at front of car. Looked a driveway at home - no oil - so must have leaked on they way into work.

Anyway, recon engine in 1.5k with 0.5k for fitting - so 2k on a car thats worth about 4k.

Will find out tomorrow when garage calls - and will post on here for info.
Not heard from garage yet - so blocking it.

If its a new engine job then I've decided to scrap the car.

On the positive side this means that I will have a number of mondy spares and will be able to remove bits and bobs off the car before it is scrapped - if this happens and anyone on here can get to Warrington - I'll happily hand the spares/goodies over for nowt.

Watch this space. :eek13:
Just got back from the garage. Car is fubar, the mechanic - new engine 2k plus fitting. Scrap.

I am never buying a Mondeo again - waste of 4k hard earned.

So, I have brand new set of front and rear mintex discs and pads for a Mondy - rear are the older style 2004 type pads. Any1 who can meet up with me in Warrington can have them for free.

Post on here if your interested.
shit mate that's rough, I have been reassessing my view that fords are cheap as chips to repair looking at some of the figures here for stuff...although suppose they are "relatively" cheap to repair.

Still, there's fook all relative about 2k for an engine that by rights shouldn't need replacing at 70k miles.

Iv'e never claimed on insurance yet (touch wood) and been driving since I was 17 years old, but is there nothing insurance can do for this sort of thing?
Did have a 3 year warranty - they pay the first 500 quid only. Waste of paper.

The mechanic was quite critical of the diesel ford engines- he had replaced 3 tranny engines and they were all knackered shortly after installing. In fact he 'refused' to consider replacing the engine on this basis.

Never had any problems with the vauxhalls I've owned. One was at 200k and still going when I scrapped it due to rusty bodywork. My foray into Ford was not pleasant at all. Won't look twice at any other their cars now. If they can't get the mondy right they others must he crap.

Are you free over the weekend, as I could make it over to Warrington to meet up ?
I'm on hol's at the moment - and live 30 miles away from Warrington, but this forum has been helpful and I would want the discs/pads to go to someone who will make good use of them. It would be a travesty to dump them in the bin. I'll also throw in an unopened 5 litre tin of Halfords 5w30 spec oil.

Sunday morning would be good for me - to avoid all the traffic - say 11 am.

Send an e-mail to [email protected], (take out the ANTISPAM)we can discuss the pick up outside of this forum. It's probably me being paranoid.

Thanks,

Will do expect an email from gmail very soon. :L
and email now sent :L
Nice to meet you Col Tubbs - hope you got home safely.

I can see from you mondy that you've put a lot of effort into upgrading/modding the car - the discs and pads are going to a good home.

I've registered on the Peugeot forum now - so will be making a nuisance of myself with them lot.

I'll not be posting again on here - so byeee.
Many thanks for the disks and pads etc.., nice to meet you and hope that you do come back soon.
