Gunk on outside of air inlet pipe.

Hi

Another question....

Was going to blank my egr (to rear of engine) at the weekend until I realised the air inlet pipe from the air box is held with one shot clips!! How annoying, therefore I need to invest in some jubilee clips. I did notice however that the inlet pipe was covered in gunk around what looks to be a breather pipe or something going off to the engine. Is this normal? I'm suffering terrible performance so I need to get that egr blanked asap, i've blocked the vaccum pipe but the performance is still shockingly bad.

Hi just bought my tddi and it has the same gunk on air inlet pipes not sure what it is but also only getting 35 mpg :eek13: looking at doing my egr but put off by the annoying clips. Will also need to invest in new hose collar clips. Also interested in any suggestions about gunk?
Mine has it for sure on the EGR to Intercooler boost pipe and seems to be down on power my conclusion is that the pipe is split and needs replacing I just cant get the time to check it.

Is your egr to the rear of the engine? If so where is the split in the pipe? Can you get to it from the top of the engine or the underneath? If your egr is at the front then ignore the questions, just interested to find out where the splits occur.

im guessing you got the same pipe as mine it looks split into a few sections? there is a hose you can get (samco) that is a single piece with the little pipe coming off it. im going to try and get one myself as i hate the one thats on there with them stupid jubilee clips
