i wash the car every week and polish about every 6-8 weeks.

done the car this weekend and noticed bubbles around the petrol filler by the rubber seal, the paint flaked off.

gone straight to the body shop and got it booked in

Having that done and a bit on the rear door shut in the corner where the rubber strip ends, costing £100.
i think that is a good price.

anyone else had this rust problem and how easy does the petrol flap and internal black plastic/rubber part come out?

cheers.

Oh bugger, mine's a W reg 1.8 too and I was thinking the other day how good it was that it's got no rust.
Something to look forward to then :(

Mines a R Reg, which has gone round the petrol filler cap, but the P reg one I had before hadnt! only noticed these things after getting the car.
Strange thing though, the p reg had both rear arches gone, and a patch on one of the rear wings above the bumper, the R reg one wasnt all that bad (just touched up with a touch up kit). I dont see the point in getting it sorted, as last time I had anything like this done, it was back again within a year (and the body shop wouldnt guarantee rust repairs).

1997 P-reg mk2 and so far as good as new and rust free. arches are perfect and the filler area is fine. but i do clean it near on every 2 weeks and do get rid of the trapped mud and grime from the inner arches.

don't know if you guy's use wax oil or not but i do ,only had my mondy 1 year but all door bottoms oiled, wheel liners removed then oiled&replaced, sills injected with thin wax oil and just about anything i can get at is sprayed or brushed with wax oil, this i will do every 2 years ,this is what i did with my sierra(german chassis) and it was 14 years old when sold (had it 9 years)and was immaculate no rust whatsoever and never failed any mot.if your going to keep your car it's worth it in the long run to look after it,it's not all about oil changes etc don't neglect the body,(i don't)but i do like to get well oiled :D

Thats whats happening to my soon to be new mk2.

even going to drill the sills from the top to inject waxoyl in them.

Putting stone chip underneath first then waxoyl on the top. Probs top the waxoyl up every year after the winter like.
