Hi all, Picked up my new Titanium X on Friday. Can onybody tell me what the switch with the unlock symbol on the drivers door does? It is in the same place as the open/close window switch on the passenger door. Nobody seems to know what it does. Regards Clive

pretty sure that locks the controls out for the windows in the back so only you can open/close them. Like a child lock for the rear windows.
Thanks for reply. I thought it may be that but the switch for that is at the bottom of the window controls. Clive :)
I guess nothing appears to happen when you operate this switch.

Sounds intriguing
sorry bud... I thought that was the switch you were asking about :eek13: If its not that I can even imagine the switch your on about. Sorry! All thats on mine is that and the mirrors.
Yer when I press the button nothing happens. It's a rocker switch that you can only press on the top. Even the dealers were stumped. It's on the drivers door only and situated where the up/down button is on the passenger door. Clive
This probably isn't the case, and I wouldnt even suggest it if you hadn't only just took delivery of your car... But there is a rocker switch by the mirror controls, rock it right you control the driver mirror, left you control the passenger mirror, push the little button it folds the mirrors. Surely your dealer would be aware of this even if you weren't. Maybe you could get some better help if you uploaded a picture?
Thanks mate but its not on that cluster. It's above that and exactly where the open/close switch is on the passenger door. Yes that would be a good idea if I uploaded a photo. Pleased with the car though, lovely.

Apologies I couldnt be of more help. I can only suggest what I would do which is go through the features on my car on the Ford Etis service and see if I could work out what it could be. http://www.etis.ford.com/vehicleRegSelector.do;jsessionid=66E5BF602C32E6369FB5C089571B259B.dulv0676
Your saying its in place the window switch is on the passenger side.

I wonder if its a autolock on the doors as you drive off??

We're all curious and we'll all be wanting one :)
Hi 4TitX. Well I can still lock the doors by pushing the opening handle towards the door and unlock all the doors by pulling it back out. I'm curious now as to what the rocker switch does. It has a symbol on it like an open lock but nothing happens when I press it. I.E. no noise.
Clive
its not the return boot release interior switch is it? Have you tried pressing it twice?

On the remote fob you have to press the boot release twice.
Hi, a photo might help if you can...
Chris
Thanks for all replies. Just tried the switch to see if it was the boot release but to no avail. There is no sound coming from the switch, though I was told that on earlier models that is where the boot release was but with a different symbol on it.
Photo to follow.

Oh, did Mk4 have a remote boot release?

Not sure a picture will help though its welcome I guess. If its a button in place of what would be the lefthand drive passenger window switch, then thats where it is and if we've nver seen one, we can onlt guess.

Seems strange its on the door is its nothing to do with the doors or locking. I'd even be surprised if it was a boot release, unless, if you lock the car with the normal inside door handle, that will also loock the tailgate, if you press this button, does this unlock your tailgate??
Thanks 4TitX now we are getting somewhere near. Just tried locking all doors from inside the car with the engine running. That switch now unlocks them but I can still unlock the doors by pulling the lock handle back as well. So still a bit confused. Doesn't unlock them when engine not running though as I tried yesterday. Oh well at least we know it works. Great forum, keep it up.
Regards Clive :)

I thought it would be related to the doors as it’s on the door and a lock symbol as I think even Ford have the occasional intuitive idea, and it is something to do with drive off (as I mentioned previously) but in this case it’s manual.

I guess its more eloquent pushing a button than using the door handle to lock all the doors and I would expect you to be able to still use the inside handle so at least your passengers can individually get out and certainly not double lock or disable the handle operation when in the car and engin running.

At least we can sleep at night now :)

It's just a complementary feature that is designed to work in conjunction with the Auto Lock on Drive Off function.

When you come to a halt, if you wish to unlock doors to allow people in/out, you can unlock the doors without having to virtually open the drivers door.

I would imagine that the passengers would be able to get out without the driver unlocking the doors as I dont think your allowed to lock passengers in (child locks excepted). To stop others getting in is a different story of course.

I imagine as with using the drivers door lock lever, if the doors are locked with the button, a passenger can get out, close the door. The driver would then press the button to unlock all the other doors then press the button again to lock them all. You can do this with the drivers door lever but it looks better with a button doesnt it.

Nice touch really and something we could all possibly put in ourselves. Actually, I seem to remember someone posting on the forum a query about a spare two wire connector in the drivers door too as I imagine the two wires would go directly to the drivers lock lever actuation.

So do you not have it on yours then?
