How fast do you cruise

.....when you're on the motorway/dual c way?

In my old 97, which has done 103000 miles, I don't nurse it or anything. I just cruise at about the speed limit. I change the oil about once a year and do about 12000 miles.

Just wondered what you chaps did?

Do you baby the car now that the Mk 2 is getting on a bit?

I think this post may contravene a MEG rule somewhat

SPEEDING / STREET RACING:

In general if it’s illegal to do on the road we don’t want to hear about how you did it anyway and in the same sense posts about maximum speeds obtained should be clearly stated as on-track or off-road.
I keep up with the modern traffic (not incriminating myself) and the car runs fine and never lets me down, and i still average around 45 to the gallon on long journeys.
Guys, this doesnt need any more. Camboi has pointed out the guidance.
Aye, we all cruise at 70mph where appropriate. Though we may touch 75mph briefly to make overtaking a little safer... :thumb:

 The word paranoia springs to mind.
On my trip to work each day I do approx 8 miles on a duel carriageway and set cruise at about 56-60.

Maybe, maybe not. But can any harm come of not bothering to mention such things? All it ever does is get into some kind of pub-fuelled boasting match... someone has always gone faster, been riskier, had more thrills... it's not really needed on a family-car forum, is it?

Answering the original question, steady state cruising is no issue for an older car, providing it's well maintained. If you want to nurse it, lay off the redlining and hard cornering/braking.

Fair enough but there was no boasting involved. I just wondered what folk thought of driving at what are pretty average motorway speeds in a car that's not in the first flush of youth.
65mph-70mph usually or if I`m in a hurry Warp 6 :L
I have the cruise set to 73-74 on the speedo when its appropriate, as my tomtom says this is actual 70, car has never had a problem with this apart from when the vss was up-the-spout. I've never had to change out of 5th for hills or anything either.
