Just bought a 2 litre petrol 03 mondeo ghia x estate and the display on the rev counter is showing outside temp all the time. Pressing the info button gives a 'beep' but nothing changes, the reset button changes the C to F but prolonged pressing does nothing. The car has recently had a new battery if that helps. Has anyone any ideas? Other similar topics on here are not for the exact same fault as although my info button does not work, it does beep.

You might have a replacement instrument cluster that doesnt have a trip computer.
If you have access to an OBD reader check the cars stored mileage against what is shown on the cluster, or perhaps look up the cars previous MOTs to look at the mileage.

When the fuel gauge drops down near the red does the display change to 50 miles left?

If not the dash pod is not the trip variety, swap the dash for a trip version.
