Injector Codes - F-Super & Formidable

Hi all,

I have the infamous P2337 fault code, 'Cylinder #2 above knock threshold'.
My car is a 52 plate TDCi 130, and from what I have been reading it seems that perhaps I can't read the injector codes from the car, but if I 'cant' then what do the code come out as? I have 'Read' the code, and had some values returned, (shown below), but I don't know if these are the actual codes, or some corrupt data? How can I tell?

Also, does anyone else find the formidable injector code display hard to read? Not sure why they used that 'dot matrix' style font, would have been MUCH easier to read as just a standard font!

Thanks :)

yeah thats not right, it will re-code them but not read them...
erm... so if I can't read them, how do I know what to recode them with, (and once I have done it, how will I KNOW I have done it?)
can u try it on another car to compare?

ill pop round.....
Nope, only have access to my mondi, (well the otherhalfs focus is around, but as that is petrol it doesn't even enable the injector section of formidable :p )

I read that the injectors have the codes printed on them, and also there is a label on the engine, (although if injectors have been changed they won't match), but mine do. There is a picture of the label below.
When looking stood at the front bumper, looking at the engine, are the cylinders / injectectors numbered 1,2,3,4 ?

I believe the label is written as;

1,3
4,2 (ie firing order)

So from left to right across engine that would give me:

Injector1: E0 51 F3 AE 4A 82 D3 95
Injector2: 84 45 AA 64 4A 3E 90 B2
Injector3: F0 3D 2B 1C B9 AD 6D AE
Injector4: 0C 38 BA 9C B5 C5 8E 6E

Formidable is reporting cylinder #2 above knock threshold, so presumably is injector number 2 above that I need to recode, (84 45 etc etc).

I'm still not sure how I will know whether the recoding has been accepted or not though...

Pop round, erm, aren't you up in the west midlands? - lol

Ok, I tried the recoding as described with the formidable software, and it seems to have done nothing :(

Where do I go from here? I have a car that will barely start, and when it does it seems to be nothing but a noisy smoke machine, (which is really wierd, as when the 'limp' light came on when I was driving the car it drove fine, just very underpowered.)
i know nothing, but its right that inj1, inj2, inj3, inj4 is NOT left to right by cylinder but the firing order yes?

and u have to do 1 at a time and restart the process for next injector?

Formidable is reporting cylinder #2 above knock threshold, so presumably is injector number 2 above that I need to recode, (84 45 etc etc).
is it? is cylinder 2 the 2nd in firing order?

haynes says 1-3-4-2 with cylinder 1 being nearest timing chain (opp gearbox)

inj1=cylinder1
inj2=cylinder3
inj3=cylinder4
inj4=cylinder2

is that right?

WARNING: Before attempting Injector Programming it is necessary for the
vehicle to be left stationary with the Engine off for at least 8 hours. This is to
ensure that the engine is stone cold before Injector Programming is performed.
Failure to follow these instructions may result in failure of the Injector
Programming function and/or drivability problems.
The four 16 digit injector codes are listed in firing
order, not cylinder order. Top left is injector
1(Cyl1), Top right is injector 2(Cyl3), Bottom left
is injector 3(Cyl4) and Bottom right is injector
4(Cyl2)

have you got it wrong?

So from left to right across engine that would give me:

Injector1: E0 51 F3 AE 4A 82 D3 95
Injector2: 84 45 AA 64 4A 3E 90 B2
Injector3: F0 3D 2B 1C B9 AD 6D AE
Injector4: 0C 38 BA 9C B5 C5 8E 6E
inj1=cylinder1=Injector1: E0 51 F3 AE 4A 82 D3 95
inj2=cylinder3=Injector2: F0 3D 2B 1C B9 AD 6D
inj3=cylinder4=Injector3: 0C 38 BA 9C B5 C5 8E 6E
inj4=cylinder2=Injector4: 84 45 AA 64 4A 3E 90 B2

The four 16 digit injector codes are listed in firing

can i ask what interface connector your using ?
mines actually got "cylinder1" (thru to 4) on the stickers
to be on the safe side i wouldnt program the injectors off the stickers i would read the codes direct off the injector. just in case you have had one replaced.
at least you know you have the correct codes then
2
Ok, I could be wrong, but here is how I understood it, (as shown in picture below).

Cylinder1 was next to the timing chain, then 2, 3, 4 across the engine.
I believe the injectors are then in the particular cylinders, (as this then ties up with my engine label).
So injectors go 1, 2, 3, 4 across the engine as well.
However, the ignition sequence is 1,3,4,2 and it is this order that the injector codes are given in.

My label (shown below) is arranged:

E051F3AE4A82D395 F03D2B1CB9AD6DAE
0C38BA9CB5C58E6E 8445AA644A3E90B2

Checked against the actual injectors fitted this is definitly:

1 3
4 2

So taking those codes and 'mapping' them to the cylinder / injector order that I have I have the codes of:

Cylinder1 / Injector1: E051F3AE4A82D395
Cylinder2 / Injector2: 8445AA644A3E90B2
Cylinder3 / Injector3: F03D2B1CB9AD6DAE
Cylinder4 / Injector4: 0C38BA9CB5C58E6E

I'm not sure what makes you think that the cylinder numbers don't match the injector numbers, just because they are listed in firing order rather than physical order?

Anyhoo, this is probably quite academic as I seem unable to read / write the injector codes anyway :(

MarkDerby in answer to your question I am using an F-Super along with Formidable 2.3 that came with it.

your sticker says

by firing order)
inj1(cyl 1) E0 51 F3 AE 4A 82 D3 95
inj2(cyl 3) F0 3D 2B 1C B9 AD 6D AE
inj3(cyl 4) 0C 38 BA 9C B5 C5 8E 6E
inj4(cyl 2) 84 45 AA 64 4A 3E 90 B2

The four 16 digit injector codes are listed in firing
order (on the sticker), not cylinder order.
Top left is injector 1(Cyl1),
Top right is injector 2(Cyl3),
Bottom left is injector 3(Cyl4)
Bottom right is injector 4(Cyl2)

by lineup
(cyl 1) E0 51 F3 AE 4A 82 D3 95
(cyl 2) 84 45 AA 64 4A 3E 90 B2
(cyl 3) F0 3D 2B 1C B9 AD 6D AE
(cyl 4) 0C 38 BA 9C B5 C5 8E 6E

the error would be looking at your machine not at the engine end (i.e. only cyl1 has the same inj id number, so maybe only 1 code is right)

Ok, that makes sense to me.

So....

Formidable, takes / reads the codes in firing order, (except it doesn't seem to read my 52 plate), as per the picture below.

The thing is, it is 'labelling' them as injectors, but 1,3,4,2 make me think it means cylinder?

Now, the question is... The fault code that I am getting, (see first post), is flagging up 'Cylinder 2 above knock threshold'. Does this REALLY mean CYLINDER 2, (as in injector 4), or does it mean that INJECTOR 2, (as in cylinder 3), has the problem...

these numbers have me tied in knots, and then with Formidable seemingly changing the terminology of 'injector' and 'cylinder' I am well and truely lost :eyesup:

doesnt matter

just enter the relevent code into inj1 (cyl1) E0 51 F3 AE 4A 82 D3 95 and then process

then do inj2 then inj3 lastly 4

dont even look at the engine, its the screen tat matters

i understand you have to do 1 at a time?
if im right and youve enetered the wrong codes, only inj1 (cyl 1) is right, explaing all your problems

do inj 1 and inj 2, try starting the car see if its better, if so do inj3 and start up again and lastly do inj 4.
To be honest I am not convinced that the Formidable & F-Super combination are actually programming the injector codes, but I'll try again tomorrow.
So based on my codes above, and also the order that formidable screen requires the codes I should enter them as follows, from top to bottom:

E051F3AE4A82D395
F03D2B1CB9AD6DAE
0C38BA9CB5C58E6E
8445AA644A3E90B2

Does that seem correct?

Also I am not sure if I can enter them 1 at a time, or if I have to enter them all in one go with the FORmiDable software?
hiya i have the f super and formidible software and i have an 04 plate facelift and mine does program the injectors. obviously being a facelift i can read back the codes too.

just enter the codes in your machine thus:-

by firing order)
inj1 E0 51 F3 AE 4A 82 D3 95
inj2 F0 3D 2B 1C B9 AD 6D AE
inj3 0C 38 BA 9C B5 C5 8E 6E
inj4 84 45 AA 64 4A 3E 90 B2

id do em 1 at a time, do inj1 and save

then id repeat but do inj1 and inj2 and save

then 1+2+3, and save

then 1+2+3+4 and save

id try (the car) after each save

if im right you should see an improvement each time, and right now only Inj1 is correct cos thats also "cyl 1"

are the 0's figure 0 (zeros) or upper case letter o's?

Can I confirm that the following is the method you used to reprogram the injectors:

For programming injectors, click Prog Injector Button. Turn off the ignition on your vehicle. Click OK button and
wait for 30 seconds. Then, Turn on the ignition and click OK button again, wait for another 15 seconds.The time elapsed will be displayed on the screen below.
Enter the new injector codes where appropriate on the diagram by clicking the adjacent OK button after each entry.
Injector codes are 16 digits wide and the space assigned for each entry is designed accordingly. After entering all injector
codes, click OK button at the bottom of the screen. A message will be displayed : “INJECTOR WILL BE
REPROGRAMMED , ARE YOU SURE ?” Click OK button again to accept and start the programming.
This process will take one minute. Enter the injector codes according to ignition sequence.
At the end of this One Minute period, turn the engine ignition off and click OK button. Then wait for 15 seconds...
Turn on the ignition of your vehicle and click OK button again. Wait for another 15 seconds.
When the “PROGRAMMING FINISHED” message appears, that would mean that the processing ended sucessfully.
Click OK button to go back to main menu.

I tried that with mine, but the 'programming' section didn't seem to take the 1 minute that is quoted.

mondeotdci130 the 0's are zeros, the coding is in hexidecimal so it is 0-9 and A-F.
