I got a mk2 2000 w reg mondeo with a blacktop engine in.

Got a mk3 mondeo minus an engine.

You get the idea.

So is the engine the same just badge a duratec?

The mk3 was a 1.8 originally....

Would be nice if it just slotted in

No, they're different. The Zetec-E is a Ford design, the Duratec-HE is a Mazda engine.

V6 engines are the same though.

the 2.5 is anyway.
There is some differences from mk2 to mk3 v6, and just to clarify you cant put a v6 into a 4-pot mk3 without a whole host of other changes (the thread op may have misunderstood why you mentioned the v6)
Is the 2.5 V6 considered inferior to the 3.0? I ask since it's essentially from the Mk2 generation.

Of the three engines, it's HP efficiency for displacement is the worst... 143 HP for the 2.0, 220 for the 3.0, but only 170 HP for the 2.5... Seems to make it a bad choice being not all THAT much more than the 2.0.
