hi all

i have a mk 2000/w with only one key what sort of price would a ford dealership want for a new key
and what are my options

option
a - ford cut me and reprogram a pats remote key for me

b- for cut and reprogram a red tibbe key

c- go for option b and get a second hand key and blade of ebay and reprogram a remote key

any info on prices very much aprreciated

Ford will charge you about £150,(New key/remote) a locksmith will do it cheaper at about £70, even a second hand remote will need the PATS programmed, and you can't do it yourself with only one key.

Still struggling whether to get that or not...

coz in case if i accidently lose mine then i will be totally screwed.... and i ordered a remote from ebay and i can't get it to be programmed (the one i have got when i bought the car is broken)

So get the car to have remote locking + Spare key set = £170!

Anyone else got any opinion?

in same situation. Bought a key from ebay for £30 and had it cut £10. There is a mobile bloke that is Lincoln based who said he can programme the key for £50 even with just one key (must have the right gear). Check your yellow pages for a similar type of service. The only thing that concerns me is that he then knows where you live...know what I mean!!

My ford main dealer want £6 to supply and cut a new blade for a remote I bought from ebay for £16. They then want a further £55 to program the pats for the remote to my car. Total £77. Then I will have two keys and can code or decode other keys myself. (See mirez for details). Mine is also a W plate Mk 2.

Your ford dealer charging £70 0dd to program a key are shysters, and you should tell them so. Then write to ford and tell them they have a shyster main dealer too.

dont forget , when you are looking at £ 70 ish to program a key you are paying for the labour charge , i agree though the labour / hour charges are extortionate

I bought one from a locksmith in Stoke on trent for £50 all in if you are near I will supply phone no.

So do I need to copy the transponder before attempting to reprogram the remote? Coz mine won't respond to any attempt of reporgramming...

I have only got one key, with a dead remote (fortunately the transponder still works...)

Any good suggestions?

Get yourself a 3 button remote from a focus/mondeo, swap the chip over, and program the remote, alternatively have u checked that the battery probs are making good contact when closed??

I have got another remote off ebay... and tried to do reproramming... doesn't work...

what do you mean by 'chip swapping'? which chip are you referring to?

The little glass tube in the key that holds the PATS code, take it out and put it in the new key.

isn't that a bit risky? Is there any other method to copy that?

Coz i have got a remote from ebay (as said previously) and i don't really want to damage it. Coz if it still doesn't work i can simply sell it on ebay again so i won't be left with a piece of junk... (oh come on.. spent £20 and it's not even heavy enough to be a paperweight...)

A bit risky, lol, just take the little glass tube out, and put it in the other fob, then program it to remote lock/unlock. The alternative is to get Ford to supply/Cut/program a new one for £170. There is no way to copy the code in the chip, unless you have the right kit that Ford have or a locksmith, thats why they sting you to do it, unless you have two keys, then you can copy the code yourself, see mirez.
