Can we set our hazards to flash when we lock or unlock the car?

Press the "lock" button twice on your key fob ( = Deadlock ). Your indicator lights should then flash twice.

As for unlocking, i dont think there is any standard available function that can flash the lights when unlocking.
Facelift cars flash the lights when unlocking.

I keep forgetting if i unlock the car then dont open a door it re-locks itself after a set time.

Maybe fitting a facelift locking module might enable the flash?
mine doesn't flash for anything (2001- Y)
Have you checked to see if its double locking?
Not flashing when double locking is indicative of one or more of the alarm sensors not engaging properly. Normally the bonnet one.

my mk3 flashes when unlocking and its not a facelift, its an 04 plate?
04 plate should be a facelift car, Changed July 2003.

goto http://www.etis.ford.com click the vehicle button and enter your reg or chassis number.

It will tell you when your car was built. I have seen a car on an 02 plate that was built in 2000
my ford mondeo lx zetec 02 plate keeps unlocking itself and opening all the windows
