Hi all,

Love my s max but need to get this problem sorted as soon as possible.

On our recent holiday clutch pedal stuck to the floor with the burning smell of the plate whilst towing our caravan, at the same time I got a horrible knocking noise sounding like its from passenger side of my 2007 2.0 tdci s max. Took it to our local garage who changed the clutch and duel mass flywheel. The clutch was better but the knocking noise still there. I've taken it to several other garages but they all seem stumped, they have mentioned gearbox, injectors, crankshaft, bottom end and BIG end?? Not tried Ford dealer yet thought i'd pick your brains first.

The noise is there at idle and during driving, falling out of love quickly so any help would be appreciated £900 spent already :(

Thank you

hi lisa. i had a terrible noise coming from the front passenger side of my smax for quite a while before diagnosing the problem. it was worse when the engine was labouring. one suggestion was an engine mount but in the end it was a worn shock absorber. after replacing it the noise was gone

Sounds to be like rather more serious engine trouble im afraid.

I dont understand how they can think gearbox etc though if this is happening with the vehicle stationary at idle. The gearbox is having no power applied to it in this scenario. Get it into a garage.

I am surprised the garage let you have the car back in this condition. Clearly they did not identify the problem correctly.

The gearbox and clutch will have to be stripped down again. You need to get the car to a Ford specialist.
