Lower arms

I think thats what ford call them.

I took my car to a local tyre fitted earlier today to get my rear tyres replaced, when i got the car back i drove it down the road and it didnt feel right.

I got the car home then took a look under the back of the car and ive found that the tyre fitter had bent one of the lower arms(one that comes off the subrame) and both of the trailing arms(?) (the ones the handbrake cable knocks on) it looks like the twat has jacked the car on them :BEEP:

He didnt give me a receipt so ive not got a leg to stand on :( ive been through to ford and have paid £120 for some new parts.

Ive managed to take the trailing arms off(the ones that handbrake cable knocks on) so thats ok, but i cant shift the lower arm that comes off the subframe, ive realeasd one end from the hub, and taken the nut off the subframe end, but i cant knock the bolt though, is there something im missing, or do i just need to keep hitting it untill it moves?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

the two swinging arms are bolted on ( nut and bolt ) u need two ring spanners or spanner and rachet ..
Yeah you are right, that the one with the handbrake cable on, is the trailing arm, the other 2 from the subframe to the hub are radius arms, the centre bolt that you are on about, the bolt goes through a metal sleeve, of which is in the bush, the bolt does seize into them.
Hello Hicksy.

I have just had a quick look at my Haynes and for the front lower arm it states that the subframe needs to be lowered to facilitate removal.

Never done this myself so can't offer any opinion as to whether it can be done without dropping the
subframe.

Sorry forgot to mention it states the bolt must be unscrewed as well as the nut.
you;ll need to get everyting aligned again afterwards

I thought that we are on about the rear suspension???
Hi Motorman.

yep. rear suspension lower arms front and rear.
The rear arm just unbolts but Haynes reckons the front arm needs the subframe lowered to get at the inner bolt.

ok just to clear things Up ...

the trailing arm is the arm that the hand brake cable is attacted to ....

the Swinging arms are the pair that comes from Subframe to the Lower Part of the Hub ...

the two arms thats attached to the sub frame are nut and bolt .. the outer bolts are conical to alowe arm movement for the Rear Tow ( tracking )
Sorry to hear about this mate, where did this happen?

PT me if necessary :L
strictly speaking yes, however, if someone had the facilities to do so, they could cut/grind/saw off the top head of the long bolt that is not removeable without subframe movement and let the remainder of the bolt drop downwards, then refit a brand new bolt upwards using a nyloc nut at the top, this will also simplify any future changes that may be necessary.

If it makes the difference... i would do it and consider the vehicle as safe, and i will indeed do so when it becomes necessary.
Cheers for all the help people, i think the subframe is going to have to come down to let me hit it out :( then i need to get it all aligned yet again lol
