Mondeo potential clutch problem

2706 Views 9 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  thebeetleboy
Hi everyone. I've just entered the world of Mondeo owners last week (Previously a Focus and Fiesta man) and I'm looking for a bit of advice about the car. I've noticed since driving it around that the clutch has a funny little tic, i.e When I press the clutch peddle down about 2/3 to the floor I feel a slight Graunch (don't really know how to describe it) like its rubbing past something. The gear change is smooth and it doesn't affect the drive in any way or even make an audible noise as far as I can tell, but I just need to find out if its going to turn into something more major and expensive. Any ideas what it could be? Cheers in advance.

best you dont know

turn the radio up a bit...

(could be the CSC or the DMF, £800 worth)

better now?.....lol
Definately better get that back to the dealer (did you buy it from one)?

They are obliged to fix any faults reported within 30 days (that's the law) so get it back in.

May also be worth having an independent inspection done on it. I use www.dekra-expert.com but there are loads out there and it gives you some professional weight to any claim you want to make to the dealership - it's not your word against theirs.
Cheers Gents, Yeah it is under warranty from the dealer for three months. I'll have to get it back in there and get it sorted. I don't think turning the radio up will help though as I can't hear it, maybe I should go everywhere with the cruise control on.... :}
Just a final note on this, the feel of the clutch pedal makes me think that perhaps its something rubbing past the pedal or linkage itself. Does this sound possible?
Likely to be DMF and /or thrust bearing. You will be glad you have warranty when you see estimate.
I've been looking at other peoples descriptions of DMF failures on the forum and, as far as I can tell, My ST is showing none of these problems. No slipping clutch, No noise from the engine compartment, No problem starting. In fact it drives and sounds perfect! could there be another explanation? I'm hopefully going to pop into my local garage tonight and ask his professional opinion, Its been suggested that perhaps the pedal may be at fault. Any reassuring posts gratefully received. By the way, the car has done 47K.

main dealer or Robin Doggs Motahs? (tell me not carcraft please!)

warranties are flimsy things at the best of times
A Ford specialist 2nd hand dealer. 3 month RAC Warranty. Hopefully there won't be a problem. Hopefully!
After speaking to some guys in Engine Evaluation at work, They seem to think the rubbing/grinding/graunch noise is the clutch rubbing unevenly on the flywheel (almost like a rythmic rubbing when I put the clutch pedal in). The mass concensus is that it is the DMF warping. I mentioned in another post that the Ford ETIS system says mine has a solid flywheel so fingers crossed that it might be a little easier on the pocket.
