Closer to RS, but US equivalent of the old SVE (Special Vehicle Engineering) of Europe who were responsible for the RS Turbos, Cosworths and XR models.

The SVT Contour is basically the american equivalent to the ST200 and it shares the same engine/drivetrain.

Wheels are 16". They are the 99 onwards or E1 SVT alloys. The 98 E0 ones were like our Cosworth style 5 spokers that were on MK2 Zetecs.

if you go here, there doing the calander like we are, there is loads of pictures (48 pages)of all the contour models, what gets me is how all there cars are so shiny, i know there into there detailing in a big way

I prefer the contour styling to the Mondeo to be honest. The back end of the Contour is much better IMHO.

I wonder if its possible to fit those bumpers to a UK Mk2?? I also wonder if anyones going to be brave enough and be the first to try it!! Would look very cool, and would certainly be unique!

Anything is possible with a little fettling however they are a lot more different than you think. Mountings are all different and also the Front bumper shape were the lights are is different but like i said, anything is possible.

With a bit of time and some filler it's possible but they certainly aren't a straight swap. The Contour bumpers stick out more and have different mounting etc to conform to US safety laws.

Here's the Mondeo's other American cousin, the Mercury Mystique.

Those wheels look identical to the ones used on the Mk2 Ghia X but with a polished surface. I know the differences in styling are very subtle, but i think our Mk2 version is much prettier somehow.

Saw a Coutour today. Almost fancied asking the fella if he would swap me for the Mondeo. But then I would have to remember how to drive on the wrong (right, depending on your nationality) side of the car again. Bad enough when I have to drive the wife's people carrier!

Was only an SE model and not the SVT. Plus if my memory is correct, the contours weren't all that great of a car in the States. Low spec, very generic inside. One of my mates partner had one back in 99-00 timeframe and drove it a couple of times. Funny how the European Mondeo is so much more pleasing to me than the Stateside contour was.
