Like i said previously, check if the pump is there. on the right hand side of the car, towards the rear. a bit infront of the fuel tank.
yeah, thanks, been underneath lots of times and def no pump. I've tried associating that part number with a particular model, and I'm getting 2.2 TDCi, but I know someone with a Jag X-Type 2.2 TDCi and theirs hasn't got a lift pump.

So, dunno.

The hp pump itself has a low pressure/lift pump section built into the front bit according to some diesel guy who mends these pumps.

Alright, there isn't any kinks in any pipes or anything? (I'm kinda grasping now as its hard to diagnose a fault without touching the car) Might be an issue in that lift pump section?

Thanks for your ongoing interest and contribution ????
I think I'm going to open up my original pump and take a peek inside it. If nothing goes ping then I might just open up the new pump... might save me £££s taking it somewhere...

Why don't you send the pump back to who ever refurbished it. If you go opening it up won't that invalidate the warranty if it has one.

Well, trouble is it has a Unipart part num on the box and the year 2013...it was kinda clearance NOS which I bought on the Web last January, and can't find the sellers details,
I know, should have gone to pf Jones which was a similar price anyway..but thanks for your interest and advice
Now going to start tinkering with the timing chain cover as it's not a minus temp today..

Bump! As I'm the OP, just wanted to update this thread with my solution as I hate threads that end in cul-de-sac.
Just to recap:changed the pump for a recon as old pump giving low pressure-850 bar. With new pump in, fuel filter primed, engine started, new pump giving excellent pressure-1400bar-, then after 5 mins engine stopped! Upon checking, the filter was empty. Refilled filter, engine started OK, ran until filter empty. After much ado, diagnosed that new pump low pressure side wasn't sucking. (well only enough to take fuel from filter, but not enough to draw it in from the tank)

Solution/cause?.... I'd fitted a new filter along with the new pump.
The water drain on the bottom of the filter, although tight, (as out of the box) wasn't quite tight enough and was causing the loss of suction! I didn't suss it out, but read a mention of this happening with BOSCH filters, on the Jag X-Type forum, altho' mine was a Mann filter. Simple when you know!
Caused me no end of grief tho'
