New wheels - can I keep my tyres?

Morning all.

I'd like to put a set of alloys on my MK3 in place of the dull old steel wheels.

Is it possible to swap my existing tyres from the steels to the alloys? (If I befriend a local tyre dealer first.)

The wheel size will be the same (16" x 6.5") so I don't think there's a technical reason why not.

I've only had the current tyres 6 months - they are pretty good tyres and there's still loads of miles left in them.
