this is not for my mondy but my brother in law has just bought a rover 200 today,1.4 16v petrol v reg,any how came to me so i could have a squiz at it but on inspection i noticed oil in the coolent and a very oily cap,(he's got 1 month gaurentee) and i said that the headgasket might be on it's way out or maybe it has gone before and coolent has not been flushed properly.lot's of oil in bottom of air filter box but filter has been changed by the garage and so has the oil,what do you think guy's could it be somthing else?

rovers are known for headgaskets, get it tested ASAP, but it's most likely gone.

These Rover 200 are famous for the head gasket. If you have oil in the water you are two thirds the way to failure. If the garage say they have done a head gasket job ask for the job sheet or a bill if done somewhere else. If they can not produce walk away from the car.

Any half decent mechanic will double flush the system to get rid of ALL the oil in the water and oil in the filter housing is just lazy - if they had done the head gasket why did they not wipe out the filter box?
