Can anyone tell me how to programme the pats 2 system for my 1999 ST200 using a second hand transponder? I have programmed the central locking ok but I cannot get the pats to work, I followed the instructions on mirez.co.uk but it does not work, do I have to get the key wiped somehow & if so How? thanks.

You need two working keys to programme in a third key (PATS II). The two existing keys must start the car i.e. are already programmed in. If you only have one working key, then you need to go to Fords. A Ford dealer will probably wipe the memory and start again to eliminate any lost keys from the PATS II system.

There is the possibility that you have the wrong key - I think the Focus and Mk3 mondeo use a different chip - don't know how you tell which is which.

If your car is an ex lease car or previous hire car etc, these are normally supplied from ford disabled for extra pats programming (even if you have 2 working keys) I suppose some unscrupulous people might decide to get their own key cut and programmed during a hire period and collect the car at a later date.....
