Ok, easy mistake, fuel pump wont like petrol, but in this case, more diesel than petrol, just drain a bit off, should be fine :)
It's going into the Garage Monday, they said as the car is 3/4 full and only 5litres of petrol entered the system, drive it the 1/2mile down the road, they will empty it, ans put New Diesel in it, I guess a fuel filter also.
They told me the petrol is heavier then the diesel, so it will sink to the bottom of the tank, and didn't seemed concerned about the pump.
I've almost done it myself, I remember years ago on trucks we used to put some petrol in the diesel in winter to stop the diesel freezing up, funny how times change.
TDCI engines dont like even small amounts of petrol in the diesel.

Doesnt do the injectors any good at all.
you "should2 be draining the tank and changing the filters and blowing the fuel lines through to make sure you remove any petrol in the system

you "can" choose to ignore the problem, but if you end up needing a new fuel pump etc, you'll be looking at a bill that could reach £3k
Garage flushed the whole system out ,put new fresh diesel in checked and rechecked everything, and just be sure when I get through this tasnk of diesel it's going back in for another complete flushing out, I have been lucky nothing has been damaged, this is just belt and braces on their behalf, they told me they do between 5to 8 of mis fuelings a month, the most expensive so far was a man who put 20 litres of diesel into his petrol engined porshe boxter, and ran ituntil it stopped, the car is 3 weeks old, that's got to hurt.
Glad you got this problem sorted, i have been paranoid of making this same mistake as the car i have just bought is my first ever diesel.

How the hell does somebody put 20L of diesel into a petrol? I thought all tanks on petrol models have a narrower nozzle to stop this happening?
They do , but most of the petrol stations around here use the same size nozel for diesel as petrol, and what makes it worse there NOT colour coded there all black with a disc on them that states, which type of fuel it delivering, I now use a ESSO garage which has a seperate Diesel pump.
Try sniffing the nozzle before inserting, although this does lead to some strange looks from other refuellers.

The alternative is to spray a little of the fuel on the forecourt and throw a lighted match at it, expect stern words from the magistrates though.

I hope none of the bike saddle sniffers read this, it will give them a whole new hobby :}

I hate it when buying diesel, no gloves & the pumps covered in it.

I am allergic to it :eek13:

Start to get itchy, If i wash my hands quickly its not too bad and goes away, But if i touch my face my eyes swell up.

Must have been mad buying a diesel, Just as mad being a HGV driver i guess. Nearly as mad as the company sending me 30 miles
out of my way to deliver one item worth about £60 @ 12mpg.
