when was the car serviced last as it could be that it just needs a good service
it was serviced about 6,000 mls ago,i have been trawling posts as i have a bit more time now and it seems possible that the injectors may need cleaning, will see my mechanic man asap for his opinion.in the meantime i will do a mile or so at 11pm every night just to keep things moving about so it will hopefully start ok at 5:30am(only seems to be a problem after standing for 8hrs or so)
Pull the fuel pump fuse last thing at night, let the engine starve of fuel - then ignition off, and fuse back in. If the problem disappears, it's likely one or more injectors aren't sealing well over time, and flooding one or more cylinders... :)

thanks Rich will try that to confirm diagnosis, didnt know the pump was pushing fuel even when ignition was off,i learn a little more each day
It doesn't. But when shutting down the engine, the whole system is still pressurised, and it'll seep past leaky injectors. Allowing the engine to starve of fuel removes this pressure, so they can't dribble overnight... :)

Hi there,

1º post here :) (greets from portugal :) )

I have the same issue as you, my ride its 1.6 mk2 glx from the end of 96.
I already tried what Rich sayd, but the problem its still there.
Mine also feels like a tractor(like its running on 3 cylinders, but its not becouse i already checked) when cold, but all ok when warm and for the rest of the day(if i dont leave it more than 6h parked).
Maybe its the fuel filter?
I have the full service history of the car and there says that Filters was replaced, but dont say what filters...(fuel filter, air filter and AC filter?!?).
Im getting me nuts whit this.

PS: sorry for the bad english :p
hi there superceleron, mine has been ok for the last few days so have not been able to prove whether the injectors are at fault.Maybe someone else can help you on here

Nice to know :)
Mine its still the same, i have 2 possible sensors that may cause this, coolant temp sensor and lambda sensor.
Im going to connect my elmscan5, to see the live data from that 2 sensors.
