Power Folding Mirrors on pre-facelift Mondeo

Hi all

I've just purchased a 2001 Mondeo, and upon returning home with it turns out the electric wing mirrors don't move, at all!

Upon closer inspection, it seems that the mirrors are in poor condition, with one having been glued together again, and the other being held together with electrical tape - i'm just too scared to even touch that one. Neither actually fold any more either.

Now, I've had a look around the car, and it would seem all the electrics are in order, no fuses out and all the wiring right up into the mirrors are in good condition.

I know i can get replacement mirrors for 25ish quid off ebay, however i was wondering if i can just go the whole hog and install the power folding mirrors which are also available but for the facelift models.

I presume my car isn't wired correctly, that's no issue as i'm ok at that but, if this is possible, does anyone have the appropriate wiring diagrams? Been all over t'internet to no avail!

Thanks in advance

Hi and welcome to the club. The quick answer is yes it can be done. you need the door looms of a facelift model and the mirrors. For the pwerfolds, you need to see if you have a brown relay holder under the main fuesbox in the glovebox, if you have them you will have all of the wiring in place except for the puddle lights in the mirrors.

Have a look here :

http://fordwiki.co.uk/index.php/Powerfold_Mirrors_With_Puddle_Lights_Retro-fit

it will tell you what you need to.

Also have a look there too is a good source of information, and you find other mods that you may want to do. :L

Have fun that the main thing and enjoy having fun.
Thanks for you answers guys!

Just had a quick look, typically i've no brown relay so it'll be the full wiring job!

And thanks for the link, lot of awesome stuff on there!
the swap is daunting, but with a little bit of perseverance, and some small hands, it's fairly easy to do :)

you just need the door looms for the powerfolds and puddle lights, then you can chop and change the pins to give you what you want :)

word of warning though, make sure that the wires you connect to extend the loom are more than long enough, as i found ot my cost, ther eis nothing like trying to solder wires that are just too short :}
get a set of facelift door looms & swap out the door looms ( if your fitting facelift mirrors that is ) no wiring to do door wise then, simply swap old for new & your done.

alls you have to do is add the wiring to the car side & the correct pin locations to the door & the rest is already done in the door looms that way :L

the brown relay aint that difficult to wire in really, just break it down into the basics & it sounds much easier.

1 wire to the fusebox
1 to ground
1 wire splits into 2 & goes to each door.
1 more wire does the same but different pin in the doors
1 final wire to just the drivers door

that along with the facelift door looms will have you up & powerfolding, if you get ones with puddle lights then a further 2 wires per door inside the car & them beasts are up & running too :woot:

luckily i only had to add the 4 puddle light wires to my mota as i already had the brown relay holder inplace but i have wired up a fellow meggers car with a relay holder after he bought a powerfold set-up ( mirrors/door looms/relay/switch ) & then found his car was without the relay holder even though its a ghia x model :( & i found the hardest bit for me was the connection to the fusebox as its a pain in the backside location ( right at the top of the rear side of the fusebox so working space is limited to get at it but the rest was a doddle in comparison :) )
