Hi all,

61 plate Kuga has developed a radio code fault, it persistently askes for the code which with have.

Originally I thought it was the battery as it was very low and the green dot was pure black.

Now with a new battery the same issue, the code needs inputting every time u get in.

In the past I had the car scanned (different issue) a radio module fault had appeared. Could this now be the culprit?

Thanks in advance

Dave

The radio should have a permanent live feed so that when switched off there will be a 12v supply to feed the radio memory. Perhaps that 12v is missing (fuse blown- wiring fault?) so that you have to input the code each time you switch on. You may have to take radio out to test.

This is an example of wiring and it shows pin9 as the permanent 12v feed that I refer to

The radio switches on without the ignition on - assumed that the switches live is working ?

We've had car from new - never missed a beat until summer and a dpf sensor went.

Switches on with the engine off = the permanent live is OK.

I presume if you unlock the car and put the radio on without the ignition

then it works fine?

Does it switch on automatically with the ignition though? Thats the switched

feed you need to test.

Starter motor pulling too much power which is dropping the voltage when

starting?

Mr purple yes to your questions, starts without ignition on.

Not sure about starter motor as yesterday whist engine was off it wasn't accepting the code properly as it switches off whilst entering but today I could enter it and was fine for 50min journey

Yes you said it starts with the engine off, 1 hour mode,

But does it start up when you crank the engine, or do you have to power it on

manually?

Does it only ask for the code after the first startup? If you drive for 50 minutes then

switch it off and instantly start the engine again does it ask for a code?

Looks like its a voltage issue. Voltage drops overnight and it resets the radio.

But after the engine has been running and charging the battery it doesnt ask

for the code.
