Was a silly boy today and while out decided to clear inside of car ie refesh the air, it was 2c at the time, when I got back rear right window was not fully closed. I thought it was me so started engine and press close but it did not budge and then the action of the switch reversed, the up button press made it go down and the open press made it try to close. Its now stuck.

Is it the relay and where can I get one? I hardly ever open those rear windows so as a stop gap how would I close window manually and keep it closed?

Or can it right itself if weather gets warmer.

Will try that, is it the mechanism on rear door or the master switch by driver? I tried both and it was the one on the master switch THAT WORKED!!
For any one, I ran engine, had driver door open and then put a handle with suckers on the open rear door window on outside. Heated switch gave sucker handle a few pulls upwards and got window closed. That window may never be opened again. Unless I forget:oops:

Delighted

thanks for tip

Its the window mech being stiff from being cold, the anti child beheading sensor thought there was an obstruction which is why it dropped the window.

Back again, now that the frost has gone today while out the passeneger window and the drivers slid down a bit on their own, The buttons do nothing so I had to push windows closed. Is there a method to get the switches working again?

Ok read all the wikis and today, no rain, started on rear window, got all trim etc off and saw how regulator was fitted, found a broken cable, motor still works so ordered new part BUT I cant locate the plastic clip that releases window from regulator, window is open and I disconnected motor switch. Where is that plastic clip, going by HAYNES MANUAL but cant find it. Will it be easier to locate if I loosen nuts to regulator and drop it down? If I can release window I can pull it up and leave to stave off rain.

If i remember correctly, the rear is a tab you should be able to easily press and the glass will lift away and the front is secured by bolts

When i stripped my old mk3 i took all the glass and whatever windows it was that had the tab to release (im sure it was rear), i was pleasantly surprised at how easy it was to get the glass out.

You should be able to find it by feeling around, if you cant find it, could a previous owner have snapped it off?

Thanks for reply. No it was 11 months when I got it. Its finding the tab is the problem and a bit worried if too much force is used. I am having a good look round the net and taking the motor off as well helps. As always easy when you eventually find it.

Can you recall if tab was at top or bottom and left side or right?? !! There is very little room.

:oops::oops::oops::oops: Are these tabs visible to naked eye!!

Its bad enough removing one membrane and at the moment if I cant see/feel it in the open frame I may not see/feel it in the other, age is creeping.

At last got it, there was no tab, by taking motor off and dropping glass I saw that there was a hole in the window pane with a stub of plastic visible, so using both hands from left and right sides with glass halfway down I was able to use my thumbs to push out plastic stub and move glass upwards. And it was loose.

Waiting for new regulator.:)
