Rear hatch release mechanism has stopped working on my fiesta mk 6. Is it usually a poor connection or broken wires on the hinge? It does not open when I use the button on the fob or with the button on the dashboard and has to be opened with a key.

It is fob operated and button on dash opperated niether work anymore, we can however open the hatch with the key.
Other related things work normally so not the batteries.
Is solenoid found near the boot lock?

Bought a solenoid off ebay £15

Guy at work who changed them regularly at Ford said water gets in and they just stop working.

Think he said there was an upgraded rubber / seal that helps it not to happen again

sounds like friction/corrosion has impaired the fob operated opening (ie its not strong enough to overcome the latch) and so the manual key works as it produces more torque...so would look at why the electrical method isn't powerful enough...connections , corrosion ..an interference fit.??..needs plastic off and looked at... trying both methods otherwise its guesswork on a forum
