hi
i was wondering if it would be worth while rebuilding my rear brake calipers?
my fronts where new a month before i got the car so they are fine.
before the mot there i was going to change the hand brake cable as i thought it was stretched or something as handbrake was not working, took it to a garage to have it done they said the calipers where just siezed so they unsiezed them for £10 and the handbrake worked perfect, they did say it would be a good idea to replace the calipers for the next mot.
so i have rebuilt calipers before and can get a very good price on the rear caliper rebuild kit.
what i was wondering is,will rebuilding the calipers properly be just as good as new calipers? i am confident enough rebuilding them and my main reason for this is because i can clearly see on my rear disks that the whole disk is not being used as part of it is rusty as if the car has been sitting and the rest is used as normal so clearly they are not working as well as they should be i also think they are binding a bit because the car slows down quite quickly without braking or engine braking.
i was going to rebuild the calipers get a set of good disks maybe even some drilled ones and also get some greenstuff pads front and back.
what i would like to know is would it be worth doing? will it be as good as new calipers if done correctly?
i was going to rebuild and also paint them.
and what is the best brake fluid to use? dot 4? or is there something better like dot 5 or something like that? i still have some brand new hand brake cables sitting so they will be fitted when the calipers are done regardless of the condition of the old ones
