hey guys,

ive always loved sierra saphire cossie's and before i got the mondeo considered buying a cossie replica with a 2.0 dohc engine in,

just been looking at them again, and although ive only had the mondeo a couple of months im toying with the idea of sellin or swappin and moving on to another ford - i always get bored easily...

nothing wrong with my mondeo, infact its better than i could ask for but just like the idea of having a cossie rep...

just wondered what u guys think of sierra, anyone had one? whats the handling like? and most of all the engines...

as for a cossie rep, yes i know it might be a bit chav but id keep it looking like a proper standrad cossie...

just want some opinions thats all

cheers guys
john

I had a twin cam sapahire which was RS kitted up. The Mondeo pisses on it in every area(as you would expect) the engines are gruff,it feels like a tin can compared to a Mondeo IMO. A step backwards if you do that.........

Handling in the wet was hairy too-it just doesn't feel any where near like a Mondeo. The 2L twin cam engine is anciant-8V chain driven,Pinto style IIRC?? (Cortina vintage). It had plenty of pull low down(felt quikcer than a 2L Mondeo) but ran out of steam like you would expect an 8V to higher up the range.

sierra's are fantastic cars in every way in my eyes , my mate had a fake cossie sierra , it was nice untill he went stright over the round about and wrote it off :( , as said though KEEP it looking like a STD cossie , there are a few near me witch has been done up way OTT and dont look all that and with like a 6" exhast at back and ebay blacked windows etc , keep it simple :L

only thing you will find hard is parts and it will cost a bomb to insure even if a fake , it will burn a lot more fuel than you mondeo 2.0i , and you can bet it wont be as Reliable as your mondeo as well etc , but i like them :L

i would stick with what you have or go for the XR4I with the 2.8 V6 lump in ( think its a 2.8 ) , my mate has one

Can't say i noticed any economy difference but what is the point of a replica? A car trying to be something it isn't without the tools that matter(the engine for a start!!) to back up the looks! Pointless. Sorry i don't get it-as silly as Escort Cosworth Replicas..........

Less power than the Mondeo V6 and ancient. Go forwards not backwards :D

dont do reps just doesn't give you the buzzy like the real thing but there is plenty of cossie reps out there but if that is wot u want i say go for it
there is some good ones and some really shit ones best bet is to get a rs2000 4x4 dohc14 engine and running gear and put it into the sierra lots of mods out there for them motors and start of with 150bhp to and can be taken to 200bhp na too which will be more enough to start with

already started saving for my new play toy ;)

lol i can get insured on a 2.5 v6 mondy but not an XR4I lol,

plus it would eat my wallet for petroL!

as for cossie rep, it looks so mint! and it aint that slow, in the future i could always turbo it aswell.

i love my mondeo but it just doesnt get any respect on the road at all, plus if i wanna shift it, it only goes properly at 4-6,000 revs...

any way theres a really good example of a sierra rep on ebay now,

rear disc conv,
cossie springs
interior
and a respray in my fav colour!

what u think?
and its RWD so it will be loads of fun :first:

I always liked the Sierra as a kid, but as Dave says I would imagine anything but a genuine Cossie would feel pretty crap compared to a Mondeo.

But if you are interested in Sierras, my brother has lent me a DVD called "Ford Sierra - Repmobile to Road Rocket" (Duke Video). It charts the whole of the development of the Sierra, with a fair proportion of it dedicated to the Cossie. The highlight for me is Tim Harvey being reunited with his Labbatts RS500 BTCC car from 1989 around Mallory Park (my local circuit - well, one of them), and then road testing a mint RS500.

I must admit, if I could afford it and had the space, an unspoilt RS500 (bet there's not many around) would be near the top of the list. :L

Then save up for a proper one!! By the time you have turbo'd it the cost will prob. be not far off. What do you mean by respect??!! A Cosworth look a like isn't exactly gona cut the mustard at the lights is it? A bit like the 1.6 Escort Cos look a like i made look like a fool in mine :D :first: Huge exhaust,1.6 crappy engine,pmsl.............in a nutshell i think you are crazy!

Just looked at the one on eBay.

Am I missing something, because appart from the grill, rear spoiled and possibly the colour, it looks like a normal Saph to me.

If you want a sierra then go for it, nothing wrong with a replica either, the early twincams suffered problems that were quickly overcome, and are generally a good unit if well looked after (as any engine), As the twincam was slightly problematic in it's early years, not much by the way of tuning goodies were made for it, thats not to say that there isn't anything out there for them, parts are cheap, there fairly easy to tune and with subtle mods here and there you can have a good road weapon. If theres and more info that you need, feel free to log on here www.fordsierraclub.co.uk as there are people who genuinely know about these cars and what can be done with them. :L

I've got the real thing m8, keep the mondy for a couple of years, build the no claims up then buy the real thing, you will not regret it, very quick as standard and an abundance of tuning parts available for engine, suspension, brakes etc, you will never get bored of it, then do what I do and have a V6 mondy as your runabout for the best of all worlds :L
Heres mine, never pass up an excuse to put a pic up lol

i dont gunn it around town at all, now and again i drive and accelerate a bit faster than others...

plus i never speed off the lights or race any one, and i definately wudnt if my car looks like a cossie but was hiding a 2.0 na engine under its hood

as for respect! i feel my car gets no respect what so ever these days, dont get me wrong this is the 2nd mondeo ive owned and spent many months wages on and loads of hours on it... but everyone just sees it as a mondeo, and loads of ppl ask me why i bought a mondeo to spend loads of money on, girls dont like it, my m8s take the piss out of me all the time lol.... when any one asks me what car i got - they always say something like "well at least its a car m8" lol then i gotta start saying about my kit and alloys etc

now and again i get comments sayin how its a nice car but they're probably just saying that coz they know ive spent so much on it loL!

most of all i think a sierra looks mean,

as for a turbo conversion, it wudnt cost me that much, i could do most of a zetec turbo conv on my own and it would set me back less than 1k..
