hi i have a 1.8 td mark 2 when starting from cold is it normal for the engine to sound different?

when the car warms up it sounds perfect and roars like a beast (at least i think it does). but when starting from cold it sounds a bit louder.

When the TD is cold it has kindof an overfuelling mechanism (kindof like an automatic choke) that will keep the revs up a bit higher until the car has warmed up. This also activates when the revs are dropping sharply to stop the car from stalling. If you look at the fuel pump under the bonnet, there is a little arm underneath with a cable on it - rev the car and you see it will move a little (dont bother trying to move this arm yourself as its generally very stiff).
