st200 water pump

Hi peeps, just a quick one.

Easter week end i am gona do some work to me car, fit and move the new IMRC control unit, remove the upper and lower intakes off the car along with the TB and clean them out and fit my new ford alt wire to stop the lights from flicking etc.

While i am at it i want to check somthing as i have not really had chance to look under the hood since i bought it lol, do the st200 still come with the plastic water pump or did they change over to the metal, as i am gona do a full coolant change as well.

the st200 should have a ford white (revised) plastic water pump impellor. this one was fitted due to the failings of the old black plastic impellors that had a history of breaking up

So are these ones any better 'sgking' , would it be a idear to change to the metal etc?

yes 'mondymanv6' :} i think the general consensus on here is that they are much improved. however, there is one chap who reports of a broken white pump. but i think hes the only one.

the metal ones on the otherhand are causing people problems too in that the metal disc that is fitted wobbles loose and grinds through the casing!!!

its a tricky one to advise, but if you want to be safe why not go ford for a brand new white impellor'd pump? Â£Â£Â£Â£?????

My V6 was of a vintage where the revised plastic pump was fitted.

Failure rates appear to be so low I didn't even bother removing it to look...

I think i will leave it as it is then, i have fully rebuilt x1 and head gasket repair x1 of the duratec sea v6 engines ( std silver top ) and they both have had the plastic ( old style black type ) and have changed them to the metal one, but i was not sure if fords chaged it on the st200 for a better version, if this is the case i will leave it as it is and do a full coolant change and bleed :smoking:
