hello guys quick question

ive got an R reg Si 2.5 v6 st24

which has failed the mot on a few things ..

1 is excess play on the steering
i took it to one garage that said ooooh rack needs changing "refurb rack is £150 + exchange"

and another garage said you can change just the inner arms of that rack "cheaper"

BUT

when driving the car has a strange issue if im driving straight and decide to change lanes the steering is REALLY stiff when first moving "stiffer when moving right" but after the initial move its really soft almost free moving caught me out a few times and have changed lnaes REALLY SHARPLY..........

ive only had the car a short while so any ideas

ps it also failed on front suspension arm on the mot possibly related ?

PPS some idiots put 185/55/15 on the front hmmmm its got 205/55/15 on the rear .also possibly related ?

come on guys someone must have some idea why the steering is so strange

i dont want to repair the steering rack to find out it needs replacing ...

or maybe its a pump issue maybe ?
or maybe just summat to do with the other suspension problems i have maybe

change the lower arms first and see what difference it makes :L

i just had a new rack on mine,as it clonked when the wheels were dead straight,

from my experiance the rack seems to have a spot where theres play/wear etc

manybe yours is the same

personally i would change the rack for piece of mind

mine was£100 new no mention of exchange,

but like stated get the arm changed then get the right size tyres on,that may help but as its failed on the rack anyway changing those 2 other items isnt going to solve the rack issue,all you can do is get each one back to how it should be then it may be right or need further investigation.
