the tiptronic buttons (+,-)on the steering wheel, thas they light?
Dont have an auto but them( + and - ) buttons on my 2.2 tdci adjust the cruise control speed once its set up.
Dont know if that helps or not.
Post a pic as that might help.
Could always wrap it vinyl as a temp fix.
