If I was to fit a K&N to my tdci....how would it sound?

When I had one on my td it sounded crap. There would be a constant low down drone and generally, it sounded crap.

Would it sound nicer on the tdci and, would I get a decent whistle off the turbo? :D

the more turbo noise the better if you ask me :D

Would I do any damage to the maf if I drove it for just 10 minutes or so to see what it sounded like?

Not too sure about that. If it's all electroniacly controlled then it might run like a bag of crap if you run it without the airfilter for a bit. Although I can't see it damaging it in any way, I would stay away from dusty places.

wayne doesn't the grunt sound just die out a little before 3,000 rpm? that's when mine quietend down but then the turbo noise replaced it

I think with the tdci being variable blah blah it'll sound cool as hell low down

With the TDCi you get the noise of the waste gate aswell as the turbo spinning up. If you give it full throttle in 3rd gear and let off you get a pfft noise. Gavin (TDCi 160+) will tell you, he's got one on his.

Yeah thinking about it you do get a strange noise until the rev's come up although with the windows down all you can hear is the turbo spinning up. Go on just get one you know you want to :D

Yep it does sound bloody cool! Theres loads of turbo whistle, and the funny chuff noise when you lift off. Ive yet to determine what this is exactly as it cant be a dump valve cos theres no such thing on a diesel, so it can only be from the wastegate, although ive also been told this isnt possible either!?! And aside from the whistle and chuff noise, it makes the engine note sound a lot deeper throughout the revs, but this is much more noticeable from outside the car.

The disadvantage of an open cone induction kit is that you potentially draw a lot of hot air from the engine bay into the engine which can actually harm performance. If it was my money, I'd just go for a replacement panel filter in the existing air box and maybe replace the existing cold air feed with some flexi-hosing from Green...
