With my arse in my hand last night i bought a complete touchscreen sat nav to go in the mondy, hoping that i can retrofit the bloody thing so this is now going to lead to obvious questions...

As its got the climate control functions built in to the radio i think that the existing wiring i have will fit the climate unit at the base of the radio.. Is this right? I've trawled through the wiring and i think that part willbe pretty straightforward.

As for the DVD unit, am i right in thinking that this will NOT play movie dvd's and is soley for the sat nav disk?

anyone who has retrofitted one of these please can you bless me with your techincal expertise..

Thanks

Hi
I also purchased a while back a complete set up for my ST220
But decided not to fit it

The DVD drive will not play DVDs
You will need a new centre console (if not got 1 already)

The wiring for the existing stereo is completly differant to the sat nav unit (an aftermarket ISO kit can be purchased from an audio shop at around £10 to cover the speaker and power but you would need to work out which wires do what for the rest)

The heater/aircon controls will fit the new sat nav

If you manage to work out the wiring and fit it you will then need to go to ford to have the unit programed for you car as it is linked to the cars computer some how (not sure of cost).

Once you have done that the install is fairly simple just running wires etc
I gave up on mine as i simply did not have the time and purchasd a navman
sorry its not better news

Good luck with it mate :L

ok, an update on this.. Ive sorted out all the wiring and double checked where its gota go, my concern was that i didnt know how the touchscreen operated the cd and the aircon etc. NOw it seems that the wires required for DLC, the modeule communications, serve this purpose. The only wire that goes to the GEM is the radio sense which i would imagine is for the alarm system.

Im gonna wire it up out of the car today to see if it all powers up ok and then go from there, but as a precaution if anyone can E Mail me some pics of the wiring plugs to the back of the radio/touchscreen unit only i would be grateful.

E Mail to - [email protected]

Thanks

Alex

One way conversation with myself here...

Just powered the unit up and it all works, apart from the climate control cos thats in the car...

CD Player error though, theres some plastic bust off inside but im hoping that wont be an issue as im plannin on hooking up a disc changer anyway...

Just off to blow my own trumpet now.... :D
