Trip Computer Question:

938 Views 6 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  surj
Hi All,

I've done some reading on the forum regarding how to tell if my car has got the instrument cluster set-up to display the remaining miles in the fuel tank but I'm not sure how to "bridge pins 5 & 10".

Can anyone point me in the direction of any instructions on how to remove the relevant bits in order to expose the connector that I need to bridge the wires and any schematic or drawing of the pins please?

The car is a 2003 TDCI 115 LX (Pre-facelift, I think as it has twisty heater controls, not buttons), without the info button on the end of the indicator stalk. At the minute the display tells the outside temperature.

All help is appreciated.

Thanks

Dont bother, Full tank 400 - 500 miles.

Half tank 200 - 250 miles

On the red 30 - 50 miles

You might think thats a bit vague, But its probably more accurate than the trip computer will be.

Mines hopeless

Says 0 when it hits the red, Probably 2 gallons left.

Thats deliberate, especially the diesel. If it ran out of fuel the second the indicator hit zero then obviously lots of people would be running out of fuel and having problems restarting and suck bits of crap out the tank. Its a guide, not gospel and useful to have IMO.
As GarethST220 said, it's useful in my opinion so I'd like to explore the opportunity a bit further.

Anyone know how to remove the indicator stalk and/or have a drawing of the pins please?

Edit - never mind, just found out.

If it displays at any point the remaining fuel left in the tank, then you have a trip computer and all you need is an indicator stalk with the info button on it.
You're still going to need to know how to remove the stalk in order to fit the new one, so if anyone knows how to, can they share it with us please?
