hi guy's i have 98 mondy ghia x with 148,888 on the clock and it has a weird problem when i start it up from cold it make a sort of rubbing on plastic noise (tapping/rattling noise)but when it is warm it stops. I will try and get a recording of it.

as you look at the engine on the left of the egine there is a plastic cover that hides the belt, my first mondeo a 4 pot did this and it was the belt rubbing on the plastic cover,and it rattled too i just took it off then re-fitted it and never had any more from it, only did it on start up too :L

mine did it after about 8,000 miles on a new timing belt, had to retension the timing belt.

similar here, but adjusting the cover and the tensioner does'nt help.
