could be a crack around the heater matrix caused by the freezing weather. this can be caused from not adding anti-freeze to your coolant.
..open the door and check for blocked drain holes..if they are blocked then the water tends to drain on the wrong side of the door seal and inside the car!
how can i tell if the matrix has a crack init?
for thematrix, youd have to remove it. quite tricky.

more liley is rear light clusters and door seals.

do you park on a slope? :)
..I'd establish WHAT it is first!! Water or anti-freeze before you start ripping the heater apart..duh!!

I'd second that.
Water ingress in the footwells is a common Mondeo issue and is usually caused by blocked drains in the doors, badly seated pollen filter seal or a poor seal around the cover behind the door card. I'd check all these first. :L
Having thought I had solved my drivers side footwell leak - I got home today to find a large amount of water in the footwell.

Initially (Few weeks back), I found the floor seam below the accelerator pedal had opened slightly, following rust treatment (as a precaution) and sealing from above and below I thought all was well. WRONG!

Car has done loads of miles last couple of days in very wet road conditions. Seems there is also a leak in the area behind what I assume is the engine ECU, to the right of the drivers feet.

I can see a tiny hole weeping water in, allowing it to run down the inside of the front wheel arch, past the ecu and into the footwell. Also feeling up there its all black and nasty - as you would expect from water thrown up from the road wheel in the wheel arch.

Carpets all dry again and looks like this weeks project to make that water tight and treat any corrosion that may be there either caused by it or the cause of it. Will remove the wheel arch liner and have a look at the condition of things from outside too - fingers crossed!

I can honestly say I have never owned a car that leaks so much, have also discovered a leak on the rear seam under where the boot catch sits allowing water to leak into the spare wheel area.

Car was MOT`d few days ago and the guy commented on how clean the car was underneath - so im hoping rot is not the cause but after 11 years I guess the old girl is entitled to leak a little.

Still keeps me busy. Happy days

There was a post on here years ago from somebody who found a pinhole leaking water in the very palce you mentioned. It's there from the factory apparently and it seems hit or miss whether it leaks. The arch liner should stop water from getting that far up so it's almost as if there's water finding it's way down behind the wing from the scuttle/top of bonnet area.
The only permanent fix involves removing the arch liner and wing and sealing it from the outside.
Is wing removal much of a job on these? Know very little about bodywork - but I seem to recall someone saying they are "bolt on" years ago???
Im also chasing a leak to the drivers footwell, found a gap in the floor seam as mentioned, however it seems this was actually acting as a drain for another leak higher up as its wetter than ever now!!!!!! Had the ecu out and sealed around it and the bonnet release cable this afternoon so hoping thats got it.

Any pics of where you have found the hole? If I hose around my power steering reseviour then I can get a trickle in so thats what made me attack the ecu area
took the car for a spin yesterday and when i got back the footwell was worse, I have checked the pollen filter seal seams ok. I have checked the door drains agin seam ok, i made a mentel note of how much water was in the coolent bottle an it was just under max and today it was just over min and i havent driven it does this then mean matrix is gone? I still get hot air and the car dosent over heat if left for a while, or just coincedence as the water in the footwell dosent smell of anything?
If your loosing coolant it doesn't sound good for the heater matrix :(
Well the hole where water was getting in has now been sealed with silicone sealant. It was in the area to the right of the ECU and access was made easier by removing the alarm module and the relay panel. Some removal of the sound proofing was also required. Even then - access is very very tight.

Have a look upwards towards the inside of the wheel arch/wing with a torch and you may see a black residue where the water is coming in - thats what I had and hopefully problem is now solved. Was probably about 6 - 8" from where the alarm module mounts.

Will test it tomorrow and report back.

Its a horrible job to say the least - but fingers crossed!
Tested today with hose and car seems to be water tight - ideally need to drive in rain for a proper test but for now things are looking promising.
Anyone know if its accessible from the outside by removing the wheel liner?

I can make a little bit of water get in by spraying at where the ecu/bonnet cable/rear washer tube passes through, but far more comes in when i spray down into where the bonnet hinge goes, is this where you guys are finding it?

(not had chance to take the ecu/alarm module out properly as have been chasing a leak in the boot too!)
I removed the front wheel liner and to be honest it was a waste of time. I tried shining a bright light through where I could see water getting in and I tried compressed air - I could not locate anywhere inside the wheel arch where it was coming through (from the outside of car). Someone did post before on this and said that the wing needed to come off to get to the area from outside.

And like you I also had a leak in the boot - both the rear light clusters, the seam under the rubber boot seal and the plastic panels beneath the rear light clusters (leaking on bolts and 1 seam).

At some point someone had knocked a hole in the spare wheel well "bungs" to let the water out - better than rotting the well out I guess :}
Yeah my car had decided to make its own drain in the drivers floor... now thats sealed its really puddling. Guess Im going to have to strip out the ecu and alarm module, fun fun...

I think I have a leak there too. I've dried out the carpet now but since the rain has been back for the last week or so, I've put down some blue paper towels to soak up the rain. (keep changing it as it's been raining almost every day here).

Has yours stopped altogether now?
Ive been chasing this exact leak for about a month now! In the weekend I had the wing off to try and find it from the outside. Would rather seal from the outside if i can. I think the leak is actually inside the box section that goes along the inner wing.

I got one of those high pressure waxoyl sprayers are really went to town... Think its been ok since, there is so much water in the soundproofing that its hard to tell at the moment
