I have a P reg 97 Ford Mondeo 2.5 V6 SI. It is Metallic Black, but I'd like to know what the Ford name for my paint is. Can anyone help as I'm an imbecile??

Do they still print the paint name on the plate in the bonnet slam panel, like they used to do on the Escorts ?

Mines dark metallic blue, but not sure what the official name is...

If it's a very deep shade of black then it's more than likely to be Panther Black. If it looks more like a very dark shade of grey as opposed to black, then it's probably Ash Black. Personally I'd say it was Panther Black, as the black Mk 1 Mondeos were sprayed in Ash Black, but with the introduction of the Mk 2 Mondeo they started spraying the black Mondeos in Panther Black.

Thanks for the colour options there, Panther black sounds more likely. I noticed sometghing the other day though, my "black" car seems to have a hint of purple to it in certain lights. Would this be normal for panther black. BTW, it is DEFINTIELY a metallic colour...

My own car was resprayed Panther Black (it was originally Ash Black but I had it resprayed to Panther because Ash just didn't look black enough) and I can't say that I've ever noticed a purple hue to the paintwork. It could be that the car's been resprayed at some time either with a subtle "flip" paint that is supposed to look purple from certain angles but look black under normal conditions, or if not, then it could have been resprayed at some time in a shade of black other than Panther - possibly a shade of black made by another car manufacturer. The last option I can think of is that it might have been washed and coated with something that's giving the car a purple effect when the light hits it - if the car doesn't do it after a good wash then that may be the reason why. Other than that I can't think of any reasons why a car sprayed in Panther Black would look as if it's got a purple hue to it - as I said earlier, my own car's been resprayed to Panther Black and I've never had that problem.

hi there imbicile, !!!
an easy way to find out is just give your local ford dealership a tinkle on the old dog and bone, give them your car reg number or chassis vin
number and they will tell you.
i did have a mk2 ghia 1995 some time ago and to look at it you would say it was black, but in the sun shine,it had a definite purple sparkle,
i found out its colour was metallic aubergine.

ITS PANTHER BLACK, ITS PANTHER BLACK!!!
I was buying parts at Frauds the other day, and noticed on his display when he called up my reg info that the colour was listed as Panther Black.

ONE VERY STRANGE THING I did notice however, my paint code is NO WHERE on my VIN plate, it's all numbers and weights...

Could the paint code be STAMPED on the body work somewhere??
